What would it take to turn A-State into FCS I-AA?

It could be used as a feeder program for the UA. They could take in state kids who need development and kids with troubled pasts or possibly non-qualifiers.

We could level the playing field against Bama, Auburn, etc. with those Miss Community Colleges.

They won't do it. A-State worked hard to move up to FBS. They haven't set the world on fire over at Jonesboro but it would take an utter catastrophe for them to step back to FCS level.

I think we are more likely to see UCA move up to FBS Sunbelt level then we are for A-State to move down to FCS.

I think we're more likely to see UALR move up than UCA. The Sun Belt commish basically paved the way for them today when he said that any current member would automatically have new sports that they start grandfathered into the league. That comment means if UALR does start a football program then they could move right into the Sun Belt. I'm sure ASU would try to fight that tooth and nail though.

I imagine so. ASU would be up a creek if they had to compete with UALR for recruits. Wouldn't do us a tremendous amount of favors either but it wouldn't be nearly as bad as what ASU would go through.

Yes. They deserve each other.

Won't happen Idaho is the only one to ever do it voluntarily and that's because their program stinks. Arkansas State is BY FAR the most popular team in the Sun Belt for TV numbers LINK
It's more likely that they move to even better conference than ever going down to FCS.

Arkansas State has had so much success in the sunbelt, there is no way they would give up that potential bowl money and accessibility.

Had this same question at work. Match made in heaven. I also think it will hurt A State, UCA, UAPB, and UAM in the beginning. Nutt could do some damage in the Sunbelt and he would recruit the hell out of Little Rock. Will be interesting to watch develop.

FCS programs are not feeder programs. You are thinking of JUCO. The only in state JUCO we have is Arkansas Baptist in Little Rock.

FCS could be. We need to throw some money at Arkansas Baptist then. Think out of the box for a change.

No an FCS couldn't be. If a kid goes FCS they are committing to a 4 year university. When the transfer to a FBS program they will lose a year of eligibility.

The Mississippi Colleges that Alabama pulls from are JUCOs not FCS.
