If people on this board are SO dead-set on ignoring aspects of our basketball program that they shout down and disparage people, why are you here? Is this a place for you to come and feel warm and fuzzy? Is this a place where you want your fellow Hog fans to simply shut the frick up so you don't have to face reality?

I have REPEATEDLY tried to discuss MA's lack of defense and the idiocy of his defensive strategy for YEARS. I STILL haven't had a substantive discussion.

Why? Because of WHEN I choose to point these things out? THAT'S enough to make you sanctimonious flowers shut down and not want to engage?

MA is a disastrous defensive strategist and has been for years. Ignoring that fact will not change reality. Talking shite about me (someone NONE of you know) will not change reality.

So what is the worst that could happen if you ignore the TIMING for when I ask these questions, stop trying to read minds, and just discuss basketball? Would that fricking kill you?

Didn't you just call several people a "count" in the previous thread?

Defense on the three ball has gotten a lot better, clearly can see that compared to earlier in the season. I'm no longer screaming at my TV set about effort. Tennessee had open looks but were also making very difficult well-contested three's. You're not going to win when the other team shoots 65% from three, no matter what kind of defense you play.

We get it, Mike sucks.

I would suggest sending an email to Hunter Yurachek since he would be the one to fire Mike.

Thank you for talking basketball. My issue is with on ball defense 30 ft from the basket. I'm too busy to watch all of our games, but when I do watch I keep seeing this happen all of the time. Our top defender gets beat, has too much space to cover, the defense collapses, the rotation is sloppy, and we end up giving up a wide open shot while we have half the defense in bad position for a rebound.

I continuously talk about framework and not wins/losses. I use my eyeballs to gauge how well I see this framework holding up to scrutiny. It doesn't.

You realize this was their third game in 3 days?

How often has this scenario happened recently?

We play the ball deep into the backcourt in order to prevent them from starting the offense early in the shot clock. Which is part of the reason that we've had multiple shot clock violations on defense during the tournament.

The basketball discussion you want to have is idiotic. Everyone knows that we are easier to score on than most teams. We take chances to create pressure/speed teams up. It's not like Mike doesn't understand this, it's by design. We could be a better defensive team overnight, but it would be at the cost of sacrificing the philosophy that Mike has won with - at UAB, Mizzou, and now has us in the tournament for the 3rd time in 4 years, while having no losing seasons, and averaging 22 wins per year.

We want deep tourney runs, but I don't have any reason to believe Mike's system isn't capable of getting that based on his record.

I hope everyone has recovered from the turmoil it was to address the topic. I don't agree, but that's beside the point.

What kind of board do you want this to be? The cool kids can circle jerk their way regardless. It hurts nothing to address topics without insulting someone first. And you're goddamn right I'm gonna respond in kind.

Cry about it.

I made a thread yesterday that said even if we lose to Tennessee, that's no reason for the Mike haters to show their arse and act like an idiot. You obviously didn't see it.

You realize (and I know you, of all people, realize this) I've been saying the same thing for years. It's not dependent on their level of fatigue, but it certainly would make their lives a lot easier (when fatigued) to shrink the defense, no?

Or is it better to just do the same thing that obviously results in easy baskets and open rebound lanes?

So you think they should play more zone? Did you see how well Tennessee was shooting yesterday? When a team is hot from three you don't play more zone.

Take a break man, your brain is sick.

Having said that, Mason, Barford and Gafford are great players and I'd rather have Anderson than any of the other crummy coaches we've had since Nolan.

I agree 100%. Not that anyone would believe me, being zero sum, hypersensitive fans and all.

I've said it time and time again. I just wish MA would change. I've STILL never said, not once, that he should be fired.
