The most shitty part for me yesterday....

Was that our defense played well enough to win and played better than I thought they would.
Up until about 3-4 minutes left in the game they held TCU to 14 points. Even the most optimistic Hawgeye would have at least called for a 35-31 type of game through that time frame.
Lost in all this bitching about Bert is the job Paul has done with the new scheme of the 3-4 with these guys. I was a bit upset with the lack of pass rush and creative blitzing, but for the most part they played well enough to win, just on the field too much and were gassed at the end. I like what I have seen out of the defense so far this season.
I may be in the minority, I am not sure. Had you told me TCU would have 14 points with about 4 min left in the game, I would have told you we would blow them out at home.

I agree with ya, I was impressed with the improvement of the defense. Hell, I may have started a post about it, during my shitposting moment last night.
Reserving judgement on the 3-4 until we play against some bruising SEC teams.

I think Paul Rhodes was content on making hill stay on the pocket and read a defense, and make him beat us throwing the ball downfield. It worked he couldn't do it. Only had 1y1 yards passing alimh with a pick. Problem is they were able to run the ball all day since they had the lead and zero threat of us scoring. Have to get a little better against the run if we wanna stay competitive against some sec competition but there's not a defense on the country that's not gonna start giving stuff up late if they were on the field as much as ours was

They also pissed away 14 points.

Santos had some beautiful plays out there.

Agree. Hope the defense don't think they're the ones we're bitching about...except maybe the dline. But even the d-line seems to be more conditioning than anything. Every year our players look softer and more out of shape than the year before.

Agree. I do think he's gonna have to get more creative with the blitzes to get a pass rush, but I'm optimistic he will. But we don't have the depth or talent for our offense and special teams to suck SOOOOOO damn bad. And now we've lost Pulley for the year. You know it's just a matter of time until we lose 2-3 more.

We dropped at least 2 int's. Of course, their receivers had a few big drops, but overall I thought the D was much better than expected against a talented TCU offense with a mobile experience starter.

The defense is improved, even with injuries. There are some major issues on offense though, mentally and physically.

We have no rhythm on offense. No big play makers. Not physical enough. We looked lethargic.

I agree that the defense looked pretty solid. I've seen some people saying how ineffective our pass rush was, but it looked more by design to me. They didn't want to over rush and leave Kenny Hill gaps to run through. You can really see this on the few times we blitzed - we were intentionally taking on their blockers head-on, and trying to push them back into Hill, rather than try to rush by them.
It was a pretty good game plan and I give Rhodes a lot of credit for that.
Unfortunately we have no offense so it doesn't really matter.
