The biggest thing about how the TCU game ended to me

This is now indisputably Austin Allen's team. Led the team down the field with his arm to tie the game, caught the tying 2pt conversion, then ran it in himself to win the game. If there was anyone on the team that wasn't sold out on his leadership or viewed him differently because he was the new face at QB, it's gone after Saturday night. He ran through FIVE people to get into the endzone (with a little help from Ragnow to get past the last guy). Stuff like that is HUGE for a team with new faces in big roles to gel and improve. It wasn't pretty and it wasn't good for the portion of the fanbase with heart conditions, but this was the best possible thing to happen to the team in order to establish trust in the new leaders and improve going forward.

I finally saw that we were clearly the team who wanted it more.

Allen definitely showed he's a gamer with huge nuts.
Brooks Ellis was also a wild-man out there.
I realize posting this makes me seem whitey-centric, but Drew Morgan is a man among men. Those three really stood out to me as just putting the game on their shoulders and getting it done.
Agim is a beast and he will be a great one before its over. He's a freshman... :wow:

We still suck against mobile/spread QB's. The A&M scares me since they have a lot better receivers and DL.

I'm knocking on wood, but it would be typical Hog karma if....
We all finally come to embrace and love AA as a QB and agree that he should be indisputably the starter... just in time for him to get injured thanks to a god awful whiff by one of our linemen.

Him being the starter has always been pretty indisputable, IMO.

Eh, 2 years ago i thought storey would be starting. AA has hung in there so many years with so much talent under him. Hes definitely earned it.

Not sure why anyone thought Storey had a shot.
AA is better than BA, better arm and better overall mentality.
It's his job for the next two years, without question.

quote:Did you even watch the first 3 quarters? That's the best I've ever seen a team in an Arkansas uniform ever play against a Spread team with a mobile QB. We pressed hard and were absolute hawks getting to the short passes. That was the best open field tackling from us I've seen in years.
We still suck against mobile/spread QB's.

that we do, but we just beat a team with one of the best mobile QB's in the country
gives me hope for A&M. I'm sure the coaches will clean up some our mistakes against trill between now and the A&M game

Trill > Knight
That said, A&M has better receivers. Especially Josh Reynolds.

This is a huge thing I noticed as well. We still had a lot of players trying to strip the ball instead of dropping the runner but we made a lot of one on one tackles in space or holding the runner till help arrived. Still some work to do here but a noticeable improvement from years past.

My question is where the hell was this last week?? Im not griping but its a real head scratcher. I had heard all summer how much better our defense would be, but I wasnt convinced. I was sure that the same players and DC from last year would get us the same results this year as last. I was sure the LaTech game had proven me right. Then this week they showed up. Im hoping they arent spotty on thier performances. Its crazy to think they improved that much in one week.

Only time I saw us try to strip it was when the player was going down or when the player was stood up
Liked seeing us try to create turnovers

They said after la tech it would be fixed and that the greatest improvement is seen between game 1 and game 2
Think part of the problem week 1 was getting used to tackling other non Arkansas players. Wouldn't be surprised if they modify how we tackle other Arkansas players during the offseason to reduce the chance of injuries.

We tried to strip it quite often.
