So...Does it really take a top 5 recruiting class to win National Championship?

Clemson won the title last night with recruiting class ranked as follows since 2012 according to 247...

2012: 23rd(15th)(in case of 5th year RS seniors)
2013: 15th(15th)
2014: 24th(17th)
2015: 10th(9th)
2016: 8th(11th)

247 composite and then 247 only ranking in ( ). Sort of interesting to see a team win a national title after all these years without a top 7 national recruiting class and a 5 year average of a 17.4 recruiting ranking in the composite.

Proof that development does matter, and can overcome a ton of 5 star recruits. IMO

Its much easier with a vast stockpile of 5* players but finding and developing the right players for your system can win.

Can they overcome fat and hypocrisy?

We're never going to win shite with who we have now. Probably ever, but def. not with this clown staff.

Not with a QB like Watson. Without a QB like Watson, yes.

But it clearly takes top 20 talent to win.

The trend is a top 10 class not a top 5. Clemson has a top 10 in there.

It was said you had to have top 10 to make it there before Oregon did it then it moved to top 15 to include them.

Talk about moving the goal posts...

Having the best player in college football on your team certainly helps.

Having semi decent recruiters on staff does too.

Running all the best ones off and replacing them with NFL wash ups and nobodies doesn't help at all either.

Clemson has 2 top 10 recruiting classes plus Cam Newton Lite... The tend is either a transcendent QB talent and/or 2 top 10 recruiting classes in 4 yrs, both if which Clemson met.

The trend is basically a bulletproof way to figure national title winners. You can virtually eliminate all but 7 or 8 teams every year, you simply camt win a national title without top 10 talent.

The best example you can find in the last decade or so is the 2010 Auburn. They had very average classes in 2009 and 2008 but had an outstanding 2010 class that came in which obviously included Cam.
