Hey asshat, I'll have been working in the same department for nearly 2 years by the time the kid comes. They'll have plenty of advance notice and can decide whether they still want me to end up taking the job or not.

You said you were thinking of switching jobs, and then having a baby soon after.

You then call me an asshat and completely change your premise? Perhaps you should logically re-read your post and mine before insulting others.

If you reread my OP, you'll see that my current position is an 18 month position and I'm 6 months away from having to take this admin position (same company). Even if I were to get pregnant in the next 3 months (unlikely as I've already mentioned I old), they'll be well aware of my situation before I have to take the new job.

ETA if you don't want to be insulted, maybe you shouldn't put forth the opinion that a pay gap for women is justified. You don't want to mess with the women on this board.

i'm extremely hesitant to hire women coming off maternity leave or being a stay at home mom for years. they still think they're entitled to miss for all their kids' bullcrap. Also being visibly pregnant while interviewing doesn't help you either. not being sexist or any of that crap, just stating the truth.

Thinking logically will piss off the feminazi's liberals like no other.

This is why a pay gap exists, same work = same pay. Now with dudes taking leave for children happening more often, maybe the gap will close as dudes are becoming just as liable.

I did. Let me diagram this out for you:

quote:

The company has great benefits, and given that we're looking at starting a family soon, that's the only reason I'm considering staying. If I were to leave now, I might not be elilgible for FMLA at my next job. What would you do? Start looking immediately?
It's a dick move to start a new job, knowing good and well you are wanting a child and will go on leave soon after starting. Something tells me you aren't going to bring that up in the interview.

Did you miss the part where I said I wanted to be eligible for maternity leave/FMLA? That means being someplace a year. Not exactly "soon after starting."

What do you feel is the proper amount of time a woman should work someplace before being able to take maternity leave?

What about women who can't have children and don't want to adopt etc, women past the age of conception, women who don't want kids? The pay gap exists because it used to be a mans world and $$ haven't kept up with the changes in society. Now please go frick your antagonizing self.

I wasn't aware that marriage was labeled as work.

A couple days should be all that is needed before a women can return to her workplace in the kitchen after havin a young un.

I swear you start shoe'in a women and they start thinking their place is outside the home...

Not sure how old you are, but you should check on age-related fertility rates and make sure this MD-induced sense of urgency is warranted; your business of course.

If it really is an issue--and the bypass at age 46 for your spouse is very alarming as well-- then get with it and let time help you sort all of this out. Parenthood changes your outlook on many things. Your concept of 'treasures' could evolve more than you think. And I wouldn't put limits on God. Maybe you need more faith or a bigger dream. Don't make decisions based on fear; they never turn out well

Have you thought of having a frank conversation with your present employer? I don't want to lose valuable assets who have the desire and skills to grow. Bosses can't help our employees if we don't really know what the employees want and need. Also, any great organization wants employees with ambition, loyalty, and skill. You should know by now if you are working for such a place.

We should lay off of the whole gender gap thing though. This has been a political football inflated with disinformation and bullshite from both sides of the aisle. Let's stay away from such things on this site, shall we?

that's fine, doc, i shall.

i was actually focusing more on the person not the situation (internet is opposite of work principles) because historically j8762347 just enjoys pushing buttons more than anything.

those two guys crack me up. Your go frick yourself comment was the most appropriate. I came back from my maternity leave at the end of 4 weeks (worked from home quite a bit week 3)because of the fact that I work in a chauvanistic male business for the most part. I have to prove myself twice as hard. Which is just fine. I have no problems with being respected at work for ANY reason. BUT, I regret every fricking moment of not taking the time I deserved. You have NO reason to feel the least bit guilty about taking time off that IS OFFERED AND UNDERSTOOD as part of the job offer. People are so fricking stupid...

But, hey...I'd always be hesitant to hire a man who tells me his wife is a stay at home mom. Why? Because almost all of their wives are annoying as frick when mixed in with the work place in my business. In any setting. Just the exposure I deal with now makes me want to lay them frick out.

Well, I went back and counted guys and their responses in this thread, including my own. I'm assuming that my genuine, caring, and unique comment, which didn't receive any response was not included in the terrible "two guys"?

Based on your grammar and sentence structure, i'm guessing you aren't in a position to hire anybody.

My eyepad must not be putting out visible ink on this board..

Where's Broke at when I need him to relay for my tired, crusty, old, barely legible, weak ink eyepad.

Sounds like your best option is to let them train you, take the maternity leave, and find a new job while you are out on maternity leave.

That would be a super shitty thing to do, and it would frick over a company that spent time to train you and give you maternity leave
