There are so many Natural State performers to choose from, but I'll throw out the Silver Fox, Charlie Rich.
I've always loved the jazz / soul influence in his vocals. And who knew he was a Red Wolf, Razorback and football player during his brief time in academia? Here's part of his wiki bio...
quote:
Rich was born in Colt, Arkansas, to rural cotton farmers. He graduated from Consolidated High School in Forrest City, where he played saxophone in the band. He was strongly influenced by his parents, members of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Forrest City, as his mother, Helen Rich, played piano and his father sang in Gospel quartets. A black sharecropper on the family land called C. J. Allen taught Rich blues piano. He enrolled at Arkansas State College on a football scholarship and then transferred to the University of Arkansas as a music major after a football injury. He left after one semester to join the United States Air Force in 1953.
While stationed in Enid, Oklahoma he formed "the Velvetones", playing jazz and blues and featuring his wife, Margaret Ann, on vocals. He and Margaret Ann Greene had married in 1952. Upon leaving the military in 1956, they returned to the West Memphis area to farm 500 acres. He also began performing in clubs around the Memphis area, playing both jazz and R&B. It was during these times that he began writing his own material.
He had so many hits over the years, but for those unfamiliar with him here are two of my CR favorites: "I Feel Like Going Home" and one of the best songs about mid-life crisis and getting older, "Rolling With The Flow".
I hope y'all don't mind me starting an OT thread here, but there are so many great Arkansas musicians I thought i'd bring it to a place where it might be better appreciated. If it's not in keeping with your board, feel free to delete it.

Being related, I have to say Johnny Cash. I especially liked his American series of recordings.
Levon Helm. Glen Campbell. Charlie Rich, as mentioned. Al Green.

Here's a list of some of the more notable Arkansas entertainers which includes actors as well as musicians. LINK
I would rank Glen Campbell as my all time favorite with Conway Twitty and Johhny Cash close behind.
Glen grew up in a small, place over in my part of the country, had a tv show for awhile and of course a string of hits. I like guitars and he talked about how he really loved actually playing the guitar more so than any other aspect of his performing.
I liked Charlie Rich was well and had a collections of his songs which I often played and listened to. He ended up living just outside of Little Rock and I was fortunate to see him play in Barton Coliseum back in the day.
If you get into the more modern era I like Joe Nichols' singing and Justin Moore has a good country music singing voice.

My wife and I saw Glen on his final tour and he was still fantastic for a man in his mid-70's. In fine voice and still a genius on the guitar. He was, however, incredibly tied to his monitors the entire time to keep up with the lyrics. Very sad.

It's the only time I've left a concert feeling worse than when I came. God bless him.

I'm not a country music fan but I do like Johnny Cash.
The band Evanescence was started in Little Rock. They're not bad.
