The Little Rock School District issued an apology Friday after parents of home schooled students were sent a letter that many say they found offensive.

quote:

"While I am certain you have done a stellar job with your student in the home school setting; I would like to join your effort and enhance his/her educational experience by providing an even more rigorous curriculum coupled with systems to enhance the whole child," the letter said.

quote:

Jones received 5 letters to her home for each of her school-aged children, which said seems like a waste for a district looking at $11 million dollars in budget cuts.

Well in many cases home school is a far inferior education when compared to public school.

Yes, but we're talking about the LRSD here not Manhattan. In some ways, I'm sure that homeschooling can be better than some schools in the LRSD. But also, they can go frick themselves for getting offended at this innocuous shite. It's just school recruitment.

Schools are funded on a per student basis, so this is lrsd trying to get more money.

Got an 890 on his SAT and would not have been admitted into Florida if he were not an athlete. Perfect example! I would guess that a majority to near all home schooling sucks shite.

My wife and her brothers and sisters were home-schooled. Each got over a 30 on the ACT and were essentially sophomores by the time they went to college. Some home-schooled kids might be bumpkins and not learning anything, but I know lots of mom's that put a ton into educating their children at home and they do a damn good job of it.

Worked with a guy who homeschooled both kids. They graduated HS when they were 15. Could have done it earlier but they didn't want to rush things.

ACTs were 33 and 35. Wish I had been home schooled, I could have learned a lot more than I did. And I went to a great school.

All depends on the parents. My cousin's husband was homeschooled by his ultra-religious mother and his lack of education in certain areas is astounding - particularly science. He didn't know things I learned in 8th grade biology. She did him no favors.

If I lived in the LR school district and my kid wasn't one of the anointed show dogs in their special programs I would get him a library card and tell him to teach himself before wasting time in typical LRSD classes.

I always thought of home schooled kids as weird until I met one. He is a bit socially akward but he is the most polite 17 year old I've ever met. Its like he didn't have the nice bullied out of him.

In social experience sure.

I skated through public school and the University of Arkansas, and it's only gotten easier in the last 10 years. It's a fricking joke at this point.
