3* Boise State QB in the SEC. Lost a bunch of receiver transfer and recruit from Arkansas. Lost Rocket and AJ. No offensive line. Even Petrino won’t be able to do it with this dumpster fire.

This is all DVH fault. Loose last night and we melt over football.

The team was too loose? When we are loose we lose? Usually, teams play better when they're relaxed.

Sorry had just left the Vietnam hooker thread on the OT and mind was elsewhere.

It doesn't matter how talented a player you hand these coaches.

I don't think it will be good this year, but damn, can we let them play a few games before we declare them dead in the water? There is room for improvement everywhere on the field, and don't think for a second that Petrino can't improve the play at every position on offense with the players we have.

I don't know what to expect on defense, but I think we have a decent coach who has the defense playing a good scheme.

Matt Jones was a former 3 star.

I had no hope for this season, but why are we so sure he will beat out Criswell?

Because Criswell hasn't shown enough to be the defacto starter.

It should be a close QB battle this year.

Arkansas had enough talent to win 8-9 games last year.

Arkansas has too many issues on offense.

Petrino had it better at A&M and he doesn't have much to work with here.

No QBs, an offensive that will be replacing many key starters and a mediocre WR group. RBs are decent. No depth at TE.

Petrino can improve the offense but it is going to take more than one season to see any real progress which Pittman doesn't have that kind of time.

Is this where we pretend Matt Jones was an elite QB?

This is the part where we fixate on the exception so we can ignore the most likely outcome.

Elite athlete? Yes but elite QB? Not even close, he hurt his shoulder during high school and didn't have any development during the Nutt years.

A definition of a QB that tried to make chicken salad out of chicken shite.

Jones was highly coveted prospect.

He was the #31 ranked QB out of high school and Emfinger ranked him as the #13 QB out of high school.

At the risk of sounding redundant, if the offensive line isn't much better, it really doesnt matter. Last year may have been the worst o-line ever at Arkansas.

SO, one would think that It would have to be improved... right?

also, Bobby has a way of scheming to get folks open better than we have in the past several years. I am not expecting a huge leap in improvement, but a definitive leap regardless.

Jones was recruited heavily to convert to WR (0U).

Felix Jones was recruited by everyone else (0U/tenner) as a DB.

The question is why Nutt was so good at finding guys like this by letting them play their preferred position (compared to others also heavily recruiting them) vs the staffs since.

Seems like it shouldn't be too hard to find the rb or QB who is being told they are dbs, wrs, lbs, etc by everyone else. This is something that can't be blamed on NIL.

According to the 2001 24/7sports composite rankings, he wasn't ranked in the top 100 and the list only goes back to 131.

Cedric Houston was a five star and the top ranked player out of Arkansas. He was 28th overall.

Next was four star De'Arrius Howard. He was ranked 47th overall.

Four star Shawn Andrews was ranked 71 overall.

Four star Jeb Huckeba was ranked 85 overall.

I do remember Matt Jones was a high three star and he was recruited either as a QB or WR by numerous programs.
