Just message board talk

Is it me or does CBB put too much emphasis on "experience"? Kody Walker career stats : 154 carries 668 rushing yards with an average of 4.3. I think he should be used strictly for goal line or short yardage not as a top 2 back. I think he stalls our offense somewhat. We need some kind of game changer back there that can put 6 on the scoreboard at any given time if he gets loose. I think Whaley or Hammond can be that back if award more opportunities than just going with experience. Running back is a position where a freshman can excel immediately

Whaley got two snaps and Hammond didn't play at all iirc. How can you make these claims without seeing them play?

I think he does at times but it was clear that he wanted RWIII in the game when it mattered. I believe Bert said that Whaley is going to continue to get more cares and the only reason he didn't get more was because the game was so close and didn't want to put his true freshman in at that moment. I expect RWIII and Whaley to get more carries than Kody against TCU.

That's the point I haven't seen enough of Walker to want to give someone else the opportunity to see what they got. He is what he is a fullback playing RB

I hope so I definitely want to see if he's as good as I believe he is

I expect Whaley to get more carries this week but Kody has done a fine job for us outside of that 2014 Bama play. He's not a world beater but he gives rest to the other backs.

I think one positive note is how well DWIII ran the ball at the end of the game. He will be someone we can lean on if Whaley takes a little longer than expected to come around. Just hope he is able to stay healthy.

When you're in a tight game best to go with experience over potential talent to take care of the football.

Walker could actually have a good game against TCU IMO

Yea but if you're not getting result then it's ultimately detrimental to your offense.

Example:
Georgia vs North Carolina game was tight. Freshman Brian Herrien had 7 carries for 59 yards with a touchdown.

TAMU vs UCLA went to OT and freshman T. Williams had 15 carries for 94 yrds

I just think CBB can be too conservative sometimes and won't unleash his freshmen

How well did they pass block? Somewhere in here lies the answer to your OP

Not to mention avoiding the potential of a game deciding mistake that could deal a serious blow to the confidence of a young player.

I wouldn't say TOO conservative, after all he's the one that sees practice every day and it's his job on the line. He does tend to ease his players in to action instead of throwing them to the wolves, which takes a very special player to handle. RWIII was ready at the beginning of last season and you saw him slowly get more and more carries until the injury. That's just Bert's MO with RBs for some reason and it appears to work

If you notice, he really doesn't do it that way with other positions other than RB. I think by the end of the season you'll see carries break down like 40% RWIII, 25% Whaley, 25% Walker, and 10% Hammonds. The 3 RBs returning next year will have enough experience under their belts to be an extremely solid trio, probably the best pair (+1) in the SEC.

A lot of games will be tight but if you're not willing to play your more talent players because they lack experience then we will be stuck at mediocrity because it's safe

Man I hope you're right! Those backs have the talent and can contribute right now

yep. Walker is just the kind of back that can demoralize a TCU type team.

They'll have fits w/ Rawleigh, then when they're tired they get a 250lb mack truck getting 5-6 yards on 3rd and 2.

I want to see Johnson and Cantrell get carries over the WR end arounds.

Kody is a pounder. He may not break many long runs, but he wears on a defense. As long as you're not behind the chains and he's averaging 3+ yards a carry, it's a good thing.

Err... a running back that averages 4 yards a carry and is situational is a liability?

Walker is what he is. He's a big brute we put in for a bit during the game to hammer the other team. He does that well.

There are lies, LSU lies, and statistics. KW does what we need him to do for the most part.

I honestly don't get the relative hate for Kody. He's good enough to put up good rushing against LSU. That's pretty good. I have no problem with him getting carries. I also trust that he'll know his blocking assignments. I really hope he has a great year. Dude's earned it.
