My understanding of it is that he was in critical condition, but then he suffered two strokes due to his injuries, swelling, etc.

Very sad story. We've all taken risks when we were younger. Hate to see a kid pass away seeking a little adventure in nature.

growing up in the Ozarks and spending a lot of time in the hills ,in caves and on lakes as a kid makes me feel fortunate me nor any only friends had a serious accident.

This is what the family posted last night.

quote:

Dear Prayer Warriors, Our precious precious Austin has taken a turn for the worse. Austin has suffered two massive strokes, which has left him with no brain function. We will meet with Dr. Lee in the morning to take Austin off of the respirator. We will give you more information tomorrow, but we can't express how much you have held us up, witnessed to us and loved us. We know you are the Gift that God gave us to help through this. We will Praise Him in this storm.

New update, not going to be until Saturday until they stop the respirators.

quote:

Please pray for strength for Danny, Gina, and Brittany. They have peace beyond all earthly understanding, but they are exhausted. When Austin got his new drivers license last year, he selected to be an organ donor, which led he and his Mom to have a conversation regarding donation. He was adamant that he wanted to be a donor. That conversation was part of God's perfect plan. Austin fell 100 feet, but God used that small maple tree to keep his organs from being damaged so he could save 5 to 8 other people. We Praise God for revealing his perfect plan to us. But for various reasons, in order to donate his organs we will have to wait until Saturday morning, which means another couple of days here at St. John's. Please pray for strength.

Glad I'm not into shite like that anymore. Jumped off some cliffs near Camp Robinson this summer. Something like 110 ft. until you hit the water. They call it "Thriller". Dumbest shite I've ever done in my life. Hurt like hell when I hit the water, too. I'll never get rid of the mental picture my mind took when I took that step off. Pure panic.

He was. He was with Thomas or "Lucky" who is the youngest of the three. I lived next door to them growing up, they're a great family. I feel bad for Lucky and the Elder family.

so if he hasn't passed away yet sounds like it will be soon, family just waiting to pull the plug? Feel bad for making any light of it, from reading the original article I thought he had survived, didn't realize he was in such bad shape. prayers to his family.

Falls ranging from heights as low as a few feet to many thousands of feet can result in injuries that range anywhere from being described as "paradoxically unfortunate" to "miraculously minor", and everything in between. I knew a man who died from a a fall of 10 feet from a ladder and know another who survived a free fall of several thousand feet when his parachute failed to open. I was hoping for a miraculous recovery in this case. I'm so sorry to hear this.

I used to jump off the cliffs at tenkiller every summer.... Then the lake level got low and I saw what I was jumping at and realized exactly how dumb that shite is.

I'm sorry to hear about this kid. What an awful way to go.

I use to jump off the cliffs at Tenkiller too, then people started hitting rocks, debris, and other shite in the water and drowned.

Anyway the story on Austin Elder is that a tree broke his fall. He's clinically brain dead as of now but the family is keeping him on life support until tomorrow so that doctors can harvest his organs. The tree may not have saved his life when it broke his fall, but it kept his major organs from being damaged.

A friend of mine fell from a step-ladder and died almost immediately. He had an underlying condition that surfaced as a result of the fall (brain aneurysm).

You never know what's going to get you.
