You say that, but who was ever in your face saying "You are the worst excuse for a ___ I have ever seen, you suck, quit football and go hide in a hole…" when you were that age and playing sports?
Probably few because the old middle aged white guy would probably get his arse kicked by the college football player. However, these days people get to do it anonymously. If you go back and here about the death letters that football players used to get in the 70s and 80s, they didn't do well emotionally with it back then either.

Absolutely.
Hell, pee wee players get criticized. If a collegiate football player can't take it, he doesn't need to be playing football.
Eta - I won't say that a player is terrible or sucks or anything like that. I don't think that's constructive, and it's just wrong. However, I will comment on specifics if he's doing something wrong, on or off the field. That's not trash talking, IMO.

I expected this thread to be:
"Dear Arkansas forum, I met a players Mom yesterday. I normally wouldn't have said hi, but we made eye contact, and she started unbuttoning her blouse..."

I will say the majority of people have problem with giving constructive criticism, there is a huge difference between the two.
On twitter/fb the difference would be:
You need to get off twitter/fb and get your arse in the gym and work on your jump shot.
vs.
You fricking suck and should never shoot the ball.

I'm sick of calling the players "kids" they're all 18 and older, they're adults. They have peers their same age volunteering their lives so these coddled and Nike swathed babes can get star treatment for playing a childish game.
There's people Brandon Allen went to junior high with that have learned how to kill with their hands, parachute out of planes into hostile territory, negotiate with tribal leaders, assemble, clean, and disassemble every small weapon in the arsenal, tear down and repair Apaches, fly jets, and navigate warships.
Yet Brandon Allen can't learn to anticipate where a WR will be open and throws the ball away at the first sign that he might get touched by a defensive player.

. it's not so much about them being kids or men at that point it's about them being a member of my team.
Here's another stark harsh fact; We aren't a member of their team. We're just fans.

Probably his Dad.
Another thing this generation could use more of.

I wish more people realized this. Its why I don't go get on twitter and talk trash even though there are a couple I'd love to beatup at sonic for boneheadrd decisions

Oh, I agree.
I don't like to see anyone call players names, particularly, regarding their caliber of play. If they're making mistakes, be specific about those mistakes. The only time I'd make an exception is if a player, obviously, is not giving 100% effort, doesn't want to engage (get hit), or keeps making the same mistake over & over again.
Also, if a player makes statements to the effect that he doesn't care about the team, etc., is disrespectful to the university or fans, violates team or school rules, or is involved in criminal activity, all bets are off on the trash talking, imo. They deserve what they get.
I really think a lot of this would be solved if there was a rule that players could not even look at social mediia sites, at least during football season, from the time they start practicing until after post season play (if that ever happens). They shouldn't have that much free time anyway. If they do, they need to be studying or in the weight room or working on correcting their specific mistakes. I assure you, coaches "back in the day" were much more strict, and if a player didn't like it, he would not be on the team.

When I was that age I was on my own, worked construction until I was able to transition my ongoing college education into a better job. And yes, there was yelling, cussing, physical intimidation and violence in that environment. Color me unimpressed with your example.
If someone is sending death threats, that's another matter. It's certainly not fun and needs to be prosecuted. I've received a few of those threats and that's how I handle it.
Overall, the egging of the truck is much more likely to be the actions of someone who knows Brandon Allen than a fan. I'd be shocked if it was someone who gives $$ to the foundation, attends the TD Club luncheons and has season tickets.
To paint the entire fanbase as crazy and irrational over this single incident is just as idiotic as the actual egging.

Not saying that they need to be coddled or that everyone is soft or anything else. I'm saying that now that I've made a connection between a family and a player I will TRY to do my best not to personally bash anyone on the team. I don't terribly give a shite what anyone else says about anyone I was just reaffirming that I will do my best not to.
I meant to applaud this statement. That's a good lesson in life. Generally I can control my actions and not the actions of others. So, I try to not let the actions/words of others dictate my happiness in life.
