I have never disliked an Arkansas coach as much as I do Bert.

After 10 years, and all the drama, I was ready for Nutt to be gone. Then we lucked in to Bobby P and we were at least going to be a threat every game. Our teams were way more tough mentally and Petrino's coaching was good enough to make up for our recruiting deficiencies. We suck now. We're soft, fragile, and always ready to quit and lose. Bert needs to go, but with that contract buyout, we're probably stuck with his arse for a few more seasons. Unreal. I don't even hope we're going to win games anymore. I expect we will find a way to lose. Never has a coach numbed me to the point that I really don't care anymore.

Bert is undoubtedly my favorite coach when speaking of personality only. He's quick witted and just all around cool. But when you need heads busted and asses beat for shitty performances like we do, that's the wrong type you want to have.

I have no doubt Bert would be able to take over a successful, storied program and maintain success, it's the "rebuilding" and under-recruited programs that he's not cut out for. To turn around a sinking ship you need a hard arse like Petrino, especially one that doesn't get the type of talent their peers get.

Give him Bama's roster and I guarantee he loses at least three games. I hate this "lil ole Arkiesaw" mentality. We have some ballers on this team. We certainly have enough to not lose to this A&M team. There's a reason Wisconsin laughed at us when we hired him in a similar fashion to the way we laughed at Ole Miss when they hired Nutt.

I do too, but you're lying to yourself if you think we're on equal footing with the upper half of the SEC when it comes to recruits. You're also lying if you don't think Bert walked in to a dumpster fire that he was tasked with turning around. My point was that a "friend of the players" type coach won't work here with our disadvantages, not that we're lil ole Arkiesaw.

Right.

The problem is that Bert took the job because he thought he was getting a steak and blowjob deal. A top five team just the season before? It has to be on John L. Smith having a mental breakdown that they played so badly!

He thought he'd walk in and be handed the keys to a corvette. Instead he got a yugo that badly needed a tune up.

Bert thought he was getting a different team then he got. We thought we were getting a different coach then we got. Neither party looks particularly thrilled with the deal now.

We can't fire Bert with the buyout. He can't leave and walk away from all that money.

We're never going to be a win 10-11 games every year type of program. We just have to wait for the iron to get hot if we win this conference. But I do think we can win 8-9 most years, which puts us in a great spot to take advantage of years like this one. Everyone seems to suck except for a couple of teams. This 6 or 7 BS is beneath us.

I really like Bert as a person. Vehemently disliked Nutt as coach but damn I'd take him in his later years over this shitshow we have now. Bert just has to go.

Man, I'm just inexplicably angry (even though I knew it was coming) at the L today. Arkansas certainly isn't on equal footing with other programs in this league. Bert did walk into a tough situation even though we have become even softer during his tenure. The current state of the SEC makes the situation all the more frustrating. It's bad. HDN would feast on this. Mississippi State is doing what Arkansas should be doing. I do disagree with your main point though. A player friendly coach can succeed here or anywhere. That coach has to be worth a frick. Sorry about lashing out

He's cool in the sense that he's just an average dude and not a Saban thatll eat your soul for asking the wrong question or a Petrino thatll have your arse fired for wearing the wrong hat. Not like the Fonz cool. He realizes he's a football coach that coaches a game, not a God like some.

And I hate the way he looks now. As petty as it seems, I think that plays into a lot of the disdain for him and mockery made of him.

Just comparing him then to now is a putoff in and of itself:

I think Bert has recruited some pretty good talent, minus the OL, and is in a similar situation to what we had with Danny Ford(talking about wins and losses and how the fans felt)....although Danny did win the West once. If we did manage to escape Bert and his massive buyout then there are some coaches who could come in and start winning right away. If it was a Malzahn type coach then it would be a 2 or 3 year struggle just to recruit players for a different type of offense.

Cool?

He's a fat drunk who appears to be lazy.

We're out coached in every game. NMS will give us all we want..you heard it here first.

Just think...after 5 years of recruiting we still do not know who's playing where on the O-Line. Our QBs just get demolished every week on nearly every play.

What you're doing ain't working big fella.

Don't get me started on the idiot who gave him the most famously ridiculous buyout clause in all of college football.

Give whim Bama's roster and he's probably a poor man's Mark Richt...still manage to lose game after game he shouldn't and shows no hope of becoming something different.

He's a fricking douche that blames everyone but himself. He's also fond of writing checks that his arse can't cash. If that's what you like in a coach more power to you.
