I found it: Curse of the matte red helmet

Arkansas wore glossy red helmets up until the hiring of John L. Smith.
The first version of the matte red finished helmet had black on the back fading to red for the 2012 & 2013 seasons. In 2014, the helmet went to just a straight red matte finish with no black.
Arkansas record with matte red finish on helmets...
2012: 4-8, 2-6
2013: 3-9, 0-8
2014: 7-6, 2-6(longest conference losing streak in school history)
2015: 8-5, 5-3
2016: 7-6, 3-5
2017: 2-4, 0-3
TOTAL: 31-38, 12-31(SEC)
It is time for the glossy finished helmets to make their come back...
As a comparison, here are the previous 6 seasons of the glossy red finished helmet...
2011: 11-2, 6-2
2010: 10-3, 6-2(BCS Sugar Bowl)
2009: 8-5, 3-5
2008: 5-7, 2-6
2007: 8-5, 4-4
2006: 10-4, 7-1(SEC West Champions)
TOTAL: 52-26, 28-20
