Still uncertain how I feel but out of the options it’s probably the best we could’ve done.

Thoughts?

Really dude?

He's one of 7 active coaches with a Natty and is the best recruiter in the country by a mile.

This is a Brady Toops.

Even if Calipari is relatively average it was a hugely successful hire. You have to show you’re willing to spend money. A&M has been burning ungodly amounts of money on their football program with little actual on field success and their profile is higher than ever.

I guess that’s why it doesn’t seem real

It’s an “A” hire. It’s not A+ because he’s 65 and hasn’t made a deep tourney run in a few years.

I'm really not expecting a natty in the next 5 years.

What I am expecting

• program stability
• 20 win seasons
• tournament appearances
• an elite eight or two
• leave the program in better shape than you found it for the next hire

They almost won the conference this year. I can understand the Jimbo vibes but look at his conference record the last 5 years. It's still phenomenal minus the losing Covid year.

Was the Oakland loss bad? Yea, for sure but they had that dude that hit like 15 threes. It happens.

Yes, it is an A hire.

As long as we dont get hit with any sanctions...in 5 years the program will likely be stable...still in the national spot light...HY will likely be gone...we just be primed to hire a marquee replacement..

What we dont know is just how many W's and L's there will be between now and then. Maybe his high profile classes catches lightening in a bottle and we put up another year on our Final Four banner or possibly another chance at a title.

Great hire. Cal has made 9 of the last 10 tourneys and consistently wins 20+ games. Puts the program on the map and we'll get a ton of great exposure/recruits. Also sends a message we're serious about basketball after Muss walked.

Hell yes it is! He will bring in big time recruits. He will win conference championships and take us to the tourney ever year. Our program will be elevated in prestige with him here. It's a huge hire and says a ton about Arkansas basketball for him to even entertain the notion of coming here considering the contract he had at Kentucky.

Let's see...our last string of coaches post Nolan have been Heath, Pelphrey, Anderson. Now we finally got out of the wilderness and hired 2 former NBA coaches back to back with our new coach being a Hall of Famer and coach to half the pro all-star team. Even if he doesn't win big this is a statement hire. The stars and heavenly bodies aligned with this one.

Thankfully we have a few good trustees. Because our AD was going to make a shitty hire

Let's cut Yurachek and spread his salary to NIL

That's a great point.

Also, wr saw the tweet from KG last night talking about this. This was a massive PR coup. Maybe I should give HY some credit.

Bud Walton will be cranked up next season. Especially if he loads the roster with that type of talent.

I'm really looking forward to having some real bigs on the roster again.

Also, since everybody on the rant is falling all over themselves to bash this hire then it was a good one.

Good point of view

As a fan (especially a high donor fan) you can expect a pattern tho

Good games will no longer be played at BWA, they will be neutral on the road games at venues where Cal gets a cut of the gate

Lower arena SEC tourney tickets will go to Cal and maybe the Top 5 Hog donors

Lower arena non BWA tickets will be scarce for the loyal Hog fans who are not elite donors

BWA regular season games will be against Top 300 teams, not Top 150 teams or better

In state kids will be glossed over for NBA guys

Kentucky's core of pride for the state and all fans was replaced by money and corporate donors out of state who got tickets and never came to games. Rupp had a built in home court advantage from the 1970's to Cal. Now it does not scare any visiting team.

Come on. You know he will pull kids. We just hope like hell it's a jumble of the right kids. Guards to a seven footer. frick Kentucky. Our palice is much nicer.

Let’s be honest. Kentucky is in a situation (in large part thanks to Cal) to not have to prioritize money and their public profile. I’m willing to sell a little bit of my soul to inch closer to what Kentucky’s got. The program, the university and the entire state need it.
