How can we call ourselves a power run team and all that but we don't have a scholarship fullback on the roster? I've always thought I know the game pretty decent and it seems to me that power run games utilize the fullback.... yet we don't have one. And before anyone says it... a 6'6" TE at H back is not the same thing. Seems to me that Kody could fill that role and we'd have a two rb rotation with Collins and RWilliams.... but what the heck do I know...
I'm just a fan who thought we might ought to take Toledo a little more seriously than we obviously did.

I was surprised we didn't use a fullback on that 4th and 1 in the first half. All we needed was a yard and we use 9 offensive linemen?

I think the lack of a true fullback has really crippled our run game more than we think. I agree that we should have let Kody Walker stay at fullback and just rotated Collins and Williams.

Right now we aren't a power run team and I honestly think Enos and Bielema didn't plan for us to be one. Our offensive identity this year is a lot closer to an Air Raid attack out of a pro style setup. That means we are having a lot of the problems that plague those sort of teams. We can march up and down the field until we get into the Red Zone and then we run into trouble.

I agree.... to an extent... I really think we have ZERO offensive identity at the moment...

A Power run team does not necessarily have to have a fullback. A one back system can be a very good power run team. With all that being said it does look like we lost our identity in an effort to become more efficient in our passing.

Uhhhhhh a power run team would at least HAVE a fullback and use him in short yardage.... don't say stupid stuff. Name a POWER run team that doesn't use a fullback at all....

An SEC offense run or pass doesn't get whipped all day long by a mid major D line.

That is not in any way what i said.

Most teams want someone that can play the role of a fullback while also playing another position. It is becoming rare for teams to use a scholarship or roster spot in the NFL on a player that is just a fullback.

Still only gotten through most of the first half on video but it looks like we were creating our own problems on the o-line with a more complicated blocking scheme.

The one play I've seen so far where AC got hit in the backfield was Tretola pulling and the defender running right through the vacated area. Pass D was solid up to the point I watched.

Of course it's not like Toledo held us under 500 yards of offense or anything, we just don't have the red zone punch right now.

Physicality is a mindset.
We didn't have that mindset all day long.

I find it hard to believe we forgot how to run block overnight. Therefore I feel really good about what's going on in the passing game, I think the run game will come around. But honestly if folks are going to sell out against the run, the past 2 weeks for example, how nice is it we are game planning accordingly. Would not have happened under Chaney.

Assuming the ship isn't sinking, and I don't think it is, what are teams going to do in SEC play if we keep throwing the ball effectively? Keep throwing the ball well and the run game will open up. We saw what happened last year when we had nothing to fall back on.

We didn't forget how to run block... I think the idea was to keep our run game very vanilla non conference.... however I still think you gotta do whatever is necessary to avoid a loss and it was obvious we had no game plan for that game.

My thoughts exactly, which is why I'm not concerned about the loss. Frustrated but don't think its a sign of things to come.
