Danny Ford's Recruiting Skills

I was listening to Finebaum on the way home from work this evening and Booger McFarland told a story of his recruitment.
To paraphrase, Coach Ford did an in home visit with Booger and his parents. They were seated in the living room talking and after awhile Danny proceeded to lean back and put his cowboy booted feet on Mrs. McFarland's coffee table and then nodded off to sleep while the assistant coach talked about why they should send their son to Fayetteville.
Needles to say Booger's Mom immediately crossed Arkansas off the list of schools she would send her son to.
I'm just surprised that Danny didn't have a jaw full of Beechnut and asked for a spit cup.
His social skills are legend.

But isn't Danny Ford the primary reason Houston Nutt looked so good in his first few years?

Yes he was. He did get the talent level to where we could compete in the SEC and left Nutt with a strong Senior and Junior class.
I worked for years with Joe Kines brother and he told me that the main thing Joe saw when he came to Arkansas was that we didn't have enough "SEC level" players.
He brought Ford in as a "consultant" and Frank was sold on Danny's ability to win an National Championship at Clemson and Kines was passed over for the permanent job.

Yes

Ford was who he was. When he took the Arkansas job he was pretty much looking for that nice cushy job on the way to retirement and we gave it to him.
Could he recruit? Well he handed Nutt a pretty decent team. HDN seems to always go on a tear his first year or so in a program so there is that.
Danny Ford was the sort of hire that you make as a no brainer, only to see in a season or so that it was a bad call. He retired well before he every left the sidelines.

Danny Ford is the reason Houston Nutt looked so good. Danny Ford is also the reason Danny Ford looked so bad.

Was at a spring practice one year and watched Ford wander the field and pick up bits of trash the entire time.
