TOP FIVE DEFENSE

CHARLESTON COLLINS, DL (ARKANSAS)

Top247 defensive lineman Charleston Collins put together two good days of practice but raised his game to another level on day three of practice and had a legitimate claim for Alpha Dog status Thursday. The Arkansas signee consistently showcased his speed-to-power prowess and proved to be the most difficult assignment on the day for opposing offensive linemen.

SELMAN BRIDGES, CB (ARKANSAS)

The 6-foot-3 corner from Central Texas had his best practice of the week today which included a recovery pass breakup that showcased his massive frame and length for the cornerback position. The Top247 defensive back will need plenty of time and coaching before he's ready to contribute in Fayetteville, but he is one of the highest-ceiling cornerbacks in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Arkansas has landed a commitment from South Alabama transfer cornerback Marquise Robinson following his official visit in Fayetteville (Ark.). Robinson, 6-2, 195, was one of eight official visitors who made their way to campus during the first three days of a five-day visit window for midyear transfers. He is the Razorbacks' tenth transfer commitment of the 2023-24 cycle.

Robinson is expected to report to The Hill in January and will have one year of eligibility remaining with the Hogs. He chose the Razorbacks over transfer offers from Oklahoma State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Liberty, Houston and others.

"You know you just get that home feeling and see the energy you can burn," Robinson said of his decision. "I just see the energy that I can burn through the team. I know myself. Woo Pig!"

The Crosby (Miss.) native made up his mind before leaving campus on Friday.

"The visit went great," Robinson said. "I mean, I'm locked in now. The coaches showed me everything I need to see. The relationship is there. The coaching points are there. Academics and everything. I loved it here.

"The stadium at night time. I didn't know it would light up like that. I can't wait to play in this stadium for sure."

Robinson, who looks more like a big safety but will play cornerback for the Razorbacks.

"Arkansas is getting a leader," he said. "They are getting a player with a chip on for surely. Somebody that is going to all four quarters until zero on the clock. Be prepared to do what they do."

In addition to Robinson, Arkansas’ official visit list for the five-day window includes South Alabama cornerback Marquise Robinson, Utah running back Ja’Quinden Jackson, Florida safety Miguel Mitchell, Florida offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua, Mississippi State offensive lineman Percy Lewis, Albany defensive end Anton Juncaj, and UAB cornerback Brian Mayes.

Florida State transfer running back Rodney Hill is expected to start his visit in Fayetteville on Saturday.

The Razorbacks have other transfer commitments from quarterback Taylen Green of Boise State, wide receiver Jordan Anthony of Texas A&M, tight end Andreas Paaske of Eastern Michigan, offensive tackle Keyshawn Blackstock of Michigan State, offensive tackle Fernando Carmona of San Jose State, offensive guard Addison Nichols of Tennessee, linebacker Xavian Sorey of Georgia, safety Doneiko Slaughter of Tennessee, and kicker Matthew Shipley of Hawaii.

Before Robinson was added to the commitment list, Arkansas’ transfer class ranked 27th in the nation and ninth in the SEC, according to 247Sports. The Hogs also added 17 signees from the high school ranks during the early signing period, and the group currently ranks 26th in the nation and 14th out of 16 SEC teams. Arkansas’ combined recruiting ranking for the high school and transfer class is 27th nationally and 14th in the league.

The Arkansas Razorbacks continued bolstering their secondary on Friday with another signee from the NCAA transfer portal.

South Alabama cornerback transfer Marquise Robinson called the Hogs with an announcement on X (formerly Twitter) following an official visit to Fayetteville.

"The visit went great," Robinson said Friday. "I mean I'm locked in now. The coaches showed me everything I need to see. The relationship is there. The coaching points are there. Academics and everything. I loved it here."

The 6-foot-1, 184-pound junior played 786 total snaps in 13 games and racked up 36 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, six passes defended and three interceptions in 2023. Robinson detailed why he chose the Razorbacks.

"You know you just get that home feeling and see the energy you can burn," Robinson said. "I just see the energy I can burn through the team. I know myself. Woo Pig."

According to Pro Football Focus, Robinson finished the year with an overall grade of 64.1. He also had a run defense grade of 78.4, a tackling grade of 64.7 and a coverage grade of 61.2.

Robinson is the 10th portal addition for the Razorbacks. He joins Tennessee transfer defensive back Doneiko Slaughter as the only two secondary portal pickups of the offseason.

Arkansas added a major portal addition on Friday when four-star transfer and former Utah running back Ja'Quinden Jackson made his decision public. Jackson, 6-2, 228, chose the Razorbacks following a two-day official visit with Sam Pittman’s staff in snowy Northwest Arkansas.

Jackson spent his first year at Texas in the Covid season of 2020, which doesn’t count against his NCAA clock, and then played 28 career games in three seasons with the Utes. He will be listed as a redshirt-junior in 2024 with two years of eligibility remaining.

Jackson has played quarterback, running back, and special teams to this point of his collegiate career and will now become the Razorbacks’ fifth scholarship tailback on the 2024 roster. He started 11 games for the Utes in 2023 and finished with 797 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns.

Following the departures of running backs Raheim Sanders and AJ Green, Arkansas was in desperate need of immediate experience at the position and it added just that on Friday.

Utah running back transfer Ja'Quinden Jackson announced his commitment to the Razorbacks through X (formerly Twitter).

The 6-foot-2, 228-pound sophomore played 396 total snaps in 12 games and rushed for 797 yards with four touchdowns in 2023.

According to Pro Football Focus, Jackson finished the year with an overall grade of 82.0. He also had a pass grade of 56.5, a pass block grade of 27.9, a run grade of 86.1 and a run block grade of 62.8.

Formerly a member of the Texas Longhorns, Jackson was originally recruited as a dual-threat four-star quarterback prospect out of Duncanville, Texas.

Ja’Quinden Jackson, a former running back for Utah, has committed to Arkansas out of the transfer portal.

Jackson shared the news in an announcement on Twitter on Friday.

Jackson started his career at Texas before spending the last three at Utah.

While with the Utes, Jackson appeared in 28 games, including 11 starts over his dozen games this past season. In total, he has rushed for 1,358 yards and 14 scores on 245 career carries.

That included his production as their lead back in 2023. He doubled his carries from the season prior with 161 touches on the ground. Those led to 797 yards and four scores, five less touchdowns than when he led the team with nine rushing scores the season prior.

Jackson played high school football at Duncanville (TX) where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 85 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. As a quarterback at that time, he came out as the No. 6 QB in the country and the No. 10 player out of Texas.

Jackson comes to Fayetteville as the 11th transfer for Arkansas in this cycle. As the lone running back of that group out of seven offensive additions, he seems like a clear choice to make up for some of the lost production that Raheim Sanders left behind.

Arkansas added another major commitment from the transfer portal on Friday when Albany transfer defensive lineman Anton Juncaj announced his pledge to the Razorbacks. The 6-2, 274-pounder made his decision after wrapping up a one-night stay with Sam Pittman and the Hogs. He is Arkansas' third commitment of the day and the 12th overall, joining South Alabama cornerback Marquise Robinson and Utah running back Ja'Quinden Jackson, who also was listed as a four-star transfer.

According to 247Sports, Juncaj is a four-star transfer who ranks 89th overall in the portal and No. 10 among all defensive linemen. He registered 15 sacks and 21 tackles for lost yardage on his way to FCS All-American honors last season. Juncaj will have one year of eligibility remaining with the Hogs when he enrolls next week.

"Coach (Deke) Adams has stayed in touch and I just feel like I needed to visit Arkansas," Juncaj said. "He just always kept in touch, and going over the defense and that just means a lot to me. Just keeping in touch through the whole process.

"Just look around the facilities and really see the in-person feel of how the coaches are. Things like that," he said.

Juncaj visited Texas A&M prior to Fayetteville and was expected to visit Arizona and Syracuse before making a final decision. The talented lineman reminds some of former Albany standout Jared Verse, who was among the top players in college football before and after transferring to Florida State this past season.

"I mean, I feel like Albany is producing great d-linemen and I feel like it’s Coach (Greg) Gattuso that’s behind all that," Juncaj said."

JUNCAJ'S OFFICIAL ALBANY BIO:

2023:

Arkansas made a huge splash in the portal on Friday when Albany transfer defensive end Anton Juncaj decided to call the Hogs with an announcement on X (formerly Twitter).

Defensive line coach Deke Adams played a big role in the commitment.

"Coach Adams has stayed in touch and I just feel like I needed to visit Arkansas," Juncaj said on Friday during his visit. "He just always kept in touch, and going over the defense and that just means a lot to me. Just keeping in touch through the whole process."

A native of Port Jervis, New York, Juncaj tallied 55 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks for the Great Danes last season. He also deflected three passes and forced five fumbles.

Albany has already produced one high-profile defensive lineman in now-Florida State defensive end Jared Verse, who has been mocked in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Juncaj credited Great Danes defensive line coach Greg Gattuso with the success.

"I mean, I feel like Albany is producing great (defensive linemen) and I feel like it’s Coach (Greg) Gattuso that’s behind all that," Juncaj said.

He added he thinks he could do something similar at Arkansas to what Verse did at Florida State.

"Yeah I just got to keep working and developing and trying to get to that point," Juncaj said.

The 6-foot-3, 273-pound pass rusher finished the year with a PFF grade of 90.9. He also had a run defense grade of 86.3, a tackling grade of 58.4, a pass rush grade of 90.3 and a coverage grade of 68.5.

Overall (HS + portal) we are in high 20s for the class.

Our 4-stars in the transfer class are all borderline with 90 grades.
