That will change in the future. Northwest Arkansas will lead the way.

The economy is pretty killer where I live. The rest of the state must be really sucking hard.

Not to mention the start up competitions we currently have. Something big will eventually come out of it.

pedestrian and deriviatives is what comes out of it.

Startup Junkie is more a canvassing program for a small group of lightly funded VC wannabe's.

They're very limited in capability but very good at saying the right buzzwords and procuring government grants. It's essentially a small family business.

There's been a handful of guys that have cashed out big in the area and are using their windfalls to create VC funds but they're not real active outside of Walton connected projects.

There's a group of Delta planters that have probably done more to help entrepreneurs in Arkansas with their banks than any of the extremely late to the party start up champion campaigners.

Mrs. Hunt has been known to open the wallet on investments but I believe that has slowed as some of those did not pan out.

The University has gotten proactive but there needs to be a consortium of players in the arena that are willing to actually make some moves. Typical VC and investment in Arkansas is in late stage companies or those that Stephens feels can be bought for a song and either stripped and sold or trimmed down to a better profitability environment.

It's a big factor why I went to Silicon Valley. The attitudes of business folk out there are night and day different from here in Arkansas.

Some of the nicer people I've met in this world are in Los Gatos and San Jose.

So much truth in this.

It would probably also help if the actual conservatives we did elect were business minded capitalists, not regressive uneducated morons. For a state that trends so conservative, we are shockingly bureaucratic and shitty to deal with on the business front.

Legalizing weed would be a great first step, but I have my doubts that idiot Rutledge will let it on the ballot regardless of how well the petitioners follow the process.

It just struck me that both political parties represent myriad ideas and archetypes, some good and some bad. Unfortunately, Arkansas politicians overwhelmingly embody the worst aspects of their respective parties.

The next politician that advertises their 'Arkansas' or 'family' values I'm going to vote against purely for them stating that. Ok, so that's rather off subject but they don't know my particular values so they need to stop insinuating they do and acting as if Arkansans have one collective thought/value system.

Also, the weed thing better go to ballot. My 76 year old mother (who's never smoked and is a prissy prim lady yet has a love for Willie Nelson) will vote for it and considering how close it was last time there is no reason it shouldn't pass this time IF they word the dang thing right on the ballot.

You ever consider that maybe they are just typical arkansans left over because all of the smart ones left the state a few decades ago?

no, but I'm sure some have no choice but to run after they get caught scamming, stealing, being shady mother frickers, etc.

To be fair, the odds of him having the capacity to remember that thread are pretty low.

I'll search for it, but I read last week a story about the "poorest" cities and "richest" cities in America.

Pine Bluff was the #2 poorest city.

The evaporation of manufacturing and a reduction in small farm agriculture is killing cities like Pine Bluff.
