“I think the biggest thing about this team is that we’re a lot more experienced and we’re deeper across the board,” he continued. “If a guy tweaks his knee or elbow and gets hurt, we’re in a lot better shape to have guys fill in. We can come at you with right and lefthanded hitters and we’ve got several young players who are really pushing the veterans at some positions.”

However, DVH couldn’t help but praise freshman outfielder Heston Kjerstad. His brother played at UL Lafayette and Heston appears to already be making a name for himself. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder, has a very good frame for a freshman and wasn’t always in this shape. Van Horn said when the Hogs originally recruited him in high school, he was more 5-foot-11, 155 pounds. So, it’s safe to say he had a little growth spurt. Kjerstad led the Hogs in hitting this fall “by a lot” and did a good job of making hard contact, while also being able to go the other way from the left side. He’s also athletic and showed to be a good runner.
