Arkansas continues search for another defensive line commit

quote:

Arkansas misses out on another DL

Dillard High School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) defensive end Jordan Wright committed to Kentucky on Wednesday.

The 3-star prospect is the latest in a string of Arkansas’ 2017 defensive line targets to commit elsewhere. Wright (6-foot-5, 225 pounds) is a 3-star recruit and is the No. 27 weak-side defensive end in the class. He officially visited Arkansas earlier this month, and the Razorbacks’ chances were believed to be strong at that point.

Blinn College (Brenham, Texas) 3-star defensive tackle Javier Edwards chose to sign with Colorado last week over the Hogs and UNLV. He had also made an official visit to Fayetteville in early December. Cisco (Texas) College 4-star defensive end Micheal Clemons had been a major target for several months. Ultimately, he committed to Texas A&M earlier this month after listing Arkansas in his top 5 a week earlier.

With just one defensive lineman — 3-star pledge Troy James — among the 21 combined commits and signees in the class, Arkansas is in desperate need of another as National Signing Day (Feb. 1) nears.

Taking the previous targets off the board, here’s a list of defensive linemen sources have indicated may be next on the Hogs’ list:

Nate Anderson, 3-star DE, 6-3, 250, New Mexico Military Institute: The No. 6 strong-side defensive end at the junior college level, Anderson committed to Missouri early this month. He has since landed on Arkansas’ radar and projects as a capable fit at outside linebacker in the Hogs’ shift to a 3-4 defense.

Rashad Brandon, 3-star DT, 6-2, 315, ASA College: Brandon committed to Missouri just one day prior to Anderson announcing his pledge to the school. His skill set matches that of a 3-4 nose tackle, and the Razorbacks could use another player to potentially man that spot next season.

Chris Turner, 3-star DE, 6-4, 225, Hammond (La.) High School: The third Missouri commit on this list, Turner has actually been on Arkansas’ radar for some time. He officially visited Fayetteville in early December, but all indications since then have been he’s firm in his commitment to the Tigers.

And Otis will still continue to fight anyone out there who questions Segrests ability to coach or reruit.

So we might get to melt on recruiting day even harder than usual. Excellent. Shaping up for a nice off season now if we can retain our dl, DC, strength and conditioning coaches while letting go of wr Oc and dB coach we will truly be unstoppable

Getting the feeling that this recruiting class is going to close out with a whimper, definitely not a bang. If we can keep what we have, there will be some good contributors down the road. Not sure any will be All SEC level, maybe a couple.

We have like 6 OVs scheduled for the entire month. Outside of this Montaric Brown issue, it's going to be a slow month for news.

I don't know how many we have available for this year, but I bet we don't fill all of them. We don't need to sign any longshots or players we don't think can help us in a couple of years. I bet we keep a couple open just in case a late surprise qualifier pops up, or we dig up another overlooked JUCO for someone to try to steal from us.

Confirmed in The Dallas Morning News this morning that we get the last visit for Chevin Calloway. He also says Ole Miss is pressing hard.

I think we have a real shot to land him if we can just get him on campus that weekend.
