That answers that. Did not know that. Thanks.

One of our recruiting guys on 247 said the other day that he would most likely be a Hog in the end and that our only competition would be from Kansas St because that's where he is originally from and his family went there. However, a poster on one of our free boards this weekend said that his family connections are actually with Mizzou. I'm not sure which one to believe.

Either way, both seem confident that he will be a Hog regardless as long as he doesn't choose the MLB route.

He's one of the rare recruits these days that is on record stating that he wants to play in an under center pro-style offense so it seems like its a good fit for both parties.

I will have to go back and find it, but that's one of the things that led me to ask. A Mizzou poster (don't think on tRant) claimed to be a relative or something and talked about how the family, and I think maybe even him at an early age, were from Missouri. I'll see if I can find the post. It might have been from that cesspool otherwise known as tigerboard, though the poster didn't come off as over the top.

Here is the post of whomever saying he is a relative and that the family is originally from Missouri or part of the family is.

And the original post he was referencing.

They both talk about KSU as well, so maybe he has family from both areas. Don't know.

I imagine it's probably Mizzou if someone on your end was saying the same thing.

He's pretty high on the Hogs however. He's been down multiple times this spring for visits and like Dale said, our current TE coach was the former OC at Bentonville before taking this job last year and his dad is the current head coach at Bentonville. His dad is probably the most revered high school head coach ever in the state. I'm sure there will be plenty of people in his ear about playing for the Hogs.

Thanks for the link.

This statement cracks me up:

and kids at Bentonville are not necessarily a lock for the U of A nowadays:

Bentonville has only had two kids go to a BCS school in the past decade and both of them were committed to Arkansas by the first week of June before their senior years. One of those is the starting TE in that hudl video that the poster linked.

Considering where it came from (TB), that's actually pretty tame.

As for the kid, I haven't heard of him ever visiting Mizzou to date, not that it couldn't have happened and I didn't hear about it.

Are you hearing anything about him and baseball?

I don't think he's been on any football specific visits other than Arkansas.

I've read various reports on him in regards to baseball. I've seen some say that baseball is his passion and that's what he is going to do. Then I've seen others say that he wants to play football because he isn't a high level prospect in baseball.

I don't know enough about baseball scouting to answer that one but until I hear the kid say otherwise I am going to assume he wants to play football since he keeps coming to our practices.

Makes too much sense.

Just saw this poster on another board. He says he grew up a KState fan because his brother went there and they ways went to games.

LINK

He listed Arkansas, Kansas St, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, LSU and Alabama as the schools he's interested in.

He mentioned that he liked schools that run pro-style.

Between him gushing about NWA, calling it the You of A and wanting to play in a pro style offense, it seems like only a matter of time.

If you're an elite prospect in both baseball and football (as a QB) then you should stick with football foremost. It's easier to try out football and fall back on baseball if football doesn't work out than it is to fall back on football. Jameis Winston, Russell Wilson and Jeff Driskel all did that.

There was that one guy at OkSU that did baseball first and then football. Didn't he exhaust his eligibility in his late 20s?

Brandon Weeden, and yes I believe he was a senior citizen by the time he was drafted into the NFL

Weeden?

He was drafted in the first round by the Browns (IIRC).

Some felt Tyler Wilson was likely to go the MLB route out of HS, I do not recall where he went in the draft that year.

Florida St. had a QB like that back in the 90s, he went the MLB route and was like a 28 year old junior.

Yes, Brandon Weeden. Josh Booty also played 4 seasons of pro baseball before going to LSU and starting for 2 years. I think he ended up getting drafted by the Seahawks.
