Did anyone else think Yeldon did a bit less dancing in the backfield this past game?
Yes. I attribute most of that to better blocking at the point of attack. It's hard to determine without the All 22 film however.

You get Drake in open field and no one is gonna catch him. He's faster than Cooper or anyone else on the team. He runs like a Kenyan. Lol

Calm me crazy, but I don't think Drake is "faster" than Coop. Well, I guess I mean in terms of a 40. I think he gets to top speed insanely fast. From what I know, he ran a 4.4 flat in the Spring. His acceleration gets him there a lot faster than any of our sub 4.4 guys though.

Cooper is fasttttttttttttttttttt. I don't know if anyone is faster than him on the team.

Originally I was going to disagree but actually Coop's first steps are fast as hell while Drake's full stride is faster. Drake's full stride is like watching lightning in cleats.

I love drakes explosiveness and I wish he would be used more in the passing game. But that kickoff return against us, that guy must be fasssstcuz he left drake and cyrus in his dust. I think coop would have caught him.

This is likely something we see more of as the season goes on. They tried to get involved once against WVU, but I think Sims missed him on the play.

The next time it is 3rd and 1, I'd rather see Henry, Fowler, Drake, or Sims run
I agree with this except for Drake running on those short yardage plays...still have concerns about his ball security.
All in all, I was happy with our run game last week, and thought our offense looked better than it did at this same time last year.

We all know that the only reason Henry isn't starting is because Saban takes care of upperclassmen that produce on the field like Yeldon does. Yeldon gets the nod this year but holy shite look out next year when the beast gets the start. At least Henry is being rewarded with carries.

Henry didn't start, but it seems like he got the first carry. I am sure that was by chance. He also averaged more yards per carry. That being said, Yeldon was the work horse. 26 carries and he scored 2 touchdowns. Damn 2014 is gonna be great for the Alabama running game.

I see where you are coming from but Yeldon is more experienced and I'm sure that's why coach trusts him in short yardage. Sure Henry is the better back im most of our opinions but seniority goes a long way with coach Saban as long as the upperclassmen is performing at a high level.

Between the two Henry seems to see the hole better and slip to the point of attack better and more powerfully. The end result is fewer 0 yard or negative runs. He also has more power and can get 4 tough yards on plays that are actually well defended.
Yeldon's strength is his burst. If he actually gets through the hole unmolested he hits some sort of turbo gear that NOBODY can adjust to so he will get a bunch of unspectacular carries then just rip off this 25 yard run that only the last man standing has a chance to stop from going for 6. Yeldon's also a proven receiver.
Drake's just this wildly unpredictable runner with elite level speed, burst, and unexpected power at the point of attack. After contact he can dart in any particular direction and be back up to full speed in two steps.

I want to see some option mixed in with gulf coast offense with OJ at wr.

Yeldon is solid but cant forget that in big games he has a fumbling problem. Henry is a freak Id like to see him get majority of the carries.
Posted on 9/3/14 at 3:27 pm to ricosuave14
Yeldon is a similar runner to S Alexander. He can run through the narrowest of gaps and has the burst to break off big runs at any moment. I like watching him work in the middle of the field. He is amazing at running in a crowd and making would be tacklers miss.
Several between the tackle runs in this video
No doubt, Henry is a beast though and would like to see him used more in short yardage situations.

Yeldon is on track to break Shaun Alexander's career rushing record. Unless he gets nicked up he's probably going to rush for over 1,000 yards again this year.

And he only needs 14 more TDs to tie Mark's career TD record.
