I just realized...if we still went by the old BCS formula Bama would probably have at least one, probably 2 more national titles. In 2014, Bama would have played FSU and this year Ohio State.
Could you imagine 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 national champs.....oh well.

I'm one of the few who actually liked the BCS.

I have no problem with either format. The Bammer in me wishes we had the BCS because it gives us the greater chance at winning a title but with the playoff IMO the best team has won the CFP each year and it shuts up the whining and cries of illegitimacy that we saw in 2011.

Anyone who wants to expand it to beyond 4 is an idiot though.

IMO, the best scenario is a playoff that uses the BCS method to pick the teams.

I am not a fan of the committee.

Agree, wish they'd use the computers, publish the formula and use it to pick the 4 teams.

this year Ohio State

That would have been an abomination.
tOSU wasn't even deserving to be there of this year's 4.

No we know that they weren't but I'm glad the committee showed that they were willing to overlook the fact that OSU wasn't a conference champ. Even though they lost 31-0 to Clemson, I hope that's still a precedent going forward.

Meh,
I am all for not necessarily setting hard critiria for the playoffs, like how Bama made the BCS game in '11, but to overlook a conference champ and pick one underneath the winner is not right to me.
Each conference has a champion.
The committee should have these at the top of their lists.
If it is decided that another team in the conference is better than the champion of one of the other conferences, then it may be OK to include them.
But basically, what the committee did, was say we like the name brand of tOSU better than Penn State, so we will pick them. We don't care about your conference championship game.

I like that there is some flexibility which is my point. The committee isn't boxed in. I would hope that we would've still gotten in last year if Ole Miss had won the West and the SEC.

I do think that there should be a penalty for not playing that extra game and sitting out while other teams risk a loss & injuries. That is kind of BS.

Not going to get into a big debate about this year, but there was clearly some bias for OSU because everyone overlooked their Michigan State game.
