Anyone who has even taken a peek at the recruiting thread or any recruiting websites can see that this class is subpar currently, not just by the impossible standard set by Saban, but by SEC standards in general. Currently, it is ranked #24 on my preferred site, 247Sports. That's lower than all but one of Mike Shula's recruiting classes were ranked. Their predictions don't show Bama landing a single 5 star this year. The highest ranked player who seems to be very seriously considering Bama at this juncture is ranked in the mid 40s.

I know that in years past, we've seen some great late rallies with these classes. But, under Saban, we've never seen one struggling this much this late. It is still too early to write this class off, but it's definitely troubling. Someone give me some evidence as to why this is going to end up looking much better than it does currently.

Ten years of recruiting and we have never seen anything like this. I hear people brush it off. But it scares the hell out of me.

Somethings going on. My first instinct is that Saban has to either be ill or going through some personal thing simply because he is the most consistent recruiter in history and overnight he can’t get commitments.

11 more spots, people don't realize how much that will change their ranking.

Bama is in the driver's seat for the 15th best player in the nation, Eyabi Anoma.

Even in an off year, Bama will have a top 5 class at worst. Saban gets to seal the deal with in homes coming up, he is still one of the best at what he does.

Depends on your definition of strong.

Top 15? Absolutely.
Top 10? Probably.
Top 5? Ehhh
#1? No way.

I said a year ago that our lack of a bona fide passing game may eventually affect recruiting wide receivers. Now I would add that the shite offense may also impact recruiting running backs, but it's more likely the fact we're loaded at that position, though without checking the stats, I think Hurts runs more than any single one of them.

This offense sucks. We can pound the hell out of the poors, but against good defenses this ain't gonna work. Fixing this will improve everything, including recruiting, the running game, the defense, team morale, fan outlook, chances of beating Auburn again...

Didnt we just have four 4 and 5 star WRs in the 2017 class?

I agree that the offense is frustrating because of how we use our RBs. Even with Jalen's limitations, our offense should be a ground and pound machine. And it just hasn't been this year.

I said "eventually"

Those guys were recruited for years, even when we had a good offense they looked forward to playing for.

I can about guarantee you that Ridley isn't the only frustrated wide receiver, and it's naive to think recruits don't get it.

Your wording implied that you said that it in the past. Sorry for not pin pointing where "eventually" fell on the future timeline. Besides, this thread is about this years recruiting class.

For the record, I think we'll end up top 10, and the offense should be a pretty quick fix. Tagovailoa at qb will probably make Daboll look a lot better. As far as I know he never coached a spread offense, let alone whatever abortion this is. It looks like a high school pickup game.

247 composite has Anoma ranked as the 41st best recruit.

Just going by your "preferred site" rankings.

Composite adds in other sites that you don't prefer...

Just makes me wonder if Saban knows he’s retiring and telling recruits he won’t be there while trying to sell them on the replacement that he’s already set up.

I prefer it because of the composite and the crystal ball. It also lists the composite ranking much more prominently than the individual 247 ranking.

I'm more worried about our recruits in the trenches than WR.

Looks like this season isn't doing so good for recruiting. Maybe next season we should tank so we can snag a top recruit with a high draft pick

Our primary problem is lack of development on the offensive line. If we can fix that problem, we're golden.

Don't forget, at least some of these players are going to sign in 2-3 weeks. That removes one of Saban's great plays: the last minute flip.

We are still trying to adjust to staff losses last season. I hope the roster is loaded with 4 and 5 stars we have forgotten because they are buried on the depth chart. This is going to be a very Meh! recruiting class.

It's not Saban's fault, just a confluence of circumstances we haven't overcame yet.
