AJ McCarron was one helluva college QB. I know that isn't breaking news, but man, that dude could frickin play.

He definitely is one of the most underrated QB's of all time. The only QB to win back-to-back titles.

That being said, when I was watching 2011-2012 highlights the other day, I kept watching that O-line open up huge holes and pass protect... It was something to see.

10 to 1 td/int ratio that year

And he wasn't just throwing dinkers and dunkers. His quick decisions and throws to guys running routes to the sidelines was unbelievable. The ball consistent ball placement was PERFECT.

I hope he lands somewhere decent next NFL season. IMO, he's got the talent to be really good at that level too.

Was thinking the same thing watching that Saban highlight real. Man we have been missing a QB since AJ left. Coker was serviceable but man AJ was good. I just want some stability at the position instead of a series of one and done guys. Hopefully our QB controversy is settled and we can move forward.

Coker was more then serviceable. He got better and better as the season progressed.

MVP of the Cotton Bowl. Threw for over 300 yards in the natty.

Bama does not win the 15 national championship without Coker.

No doubt....I wish we had Coker in '16. We beat Clemson easily with Coker.

I have always thought so but people give me tons of shite for saying he was more than a "game manager" outside Alabama fans.

The only thing is he has to watch them blindside fumbles. He's bad about that, but they didn't happen that often in college with our line.

I really hope to see him in the NFL soon so we can see what he can really do at that level. Tired of watching him be a backup.

I remember one play in the Notre Dame game, when AJ was being pressured and he threw the ball to the sidelines. Herbstreit was saying it was a smart play to throw the ball away ... then he realized a receiver was there, and had caught the ball.

Herbstreit talked for a moment about what an amazing throw that was, and how heady a play it was by AJ to get that completion.

AJ was a master of smash routes. He always tried to hit the go routes to Kenny Bell, but his smash routes to Norwood were damn near unstoppable.

He had total control of everything on offense. He never looked shaken, he never looked confused, he never looked panicky. His movement around the pocket and confident throws.......he was just fantastic.

The more I go back and watch the more I realize what sheep buffoons people who labeled him a regular ole "system QB" were. He was better than any QB sans-Mayfield that I saw play this season in college football, and I'm not sure I'd take Mayfield over him.

AJ never got the respect he deserved really....not from Bama fans but these morons who labeled him nothing more than a game manager.

We actually saw him develop right in front of us. From 2011 to 2013, he grew by leaps and bounds.

Remember, he was a Heisman finalist in 2013 and went on the road to beat Manziel in a shootout. I just hate he didnt get the 3-peat.

He had the 99 yard TD pass to Cooper in the 13 Iron Bowl that should have been the winning score and probably would have won him a Heisman.

Too bad Cyrus Jones left Sammie Coates wide open with 40 seconds left.

No doubt. He played at Alabama so lazy media-types thought he was just another Greg McElroy or JPW. Truth be told, he's better than some of the other clowns who have been drafted in the first round. I think if he actually went to a decent organization and had some talent around him, he'd be a really solid NFL QB. Its a shame he's wasting away on the bench at Cincinatti.

No doubt in my mind that he wins the Heisman if we had held off Auburn in 2013.

People need to think of his title run in halves.

His first half was pretty horrendous.

His second half was amazing.

I remember how nervous he would make me when he cam in for mop up. I can remember thinking, "Holy cow that gunslinger is gonna be our QB."

Great way to look at it. Honestly, his TD throw against Auburn in 2015 might be the most athletic play I've ever seen an Alabama QB make.

Coker definitely got better once he was able to get more reps and not worry about losing the job. Of course having a Heisman winner at RB helped relieve the pressure.

Would've loved to have seen what Coker & Sims could've done as a second year starters.

Definitely one of my favorite plays of the Saban era.
