Thoughts on the 2023 team?

Feel like this team has the biggest range between best case and worst case of any Alabama team since 2014. I really have no idea what to expect.
On the one hand I see a lot of reasons for optimism. I like both the coordinator hires and think they are very good fits with the personel and the head coach. I really like the OL and running backs. I think the WR group is going to be much better with the scheme. We're more talented and more importantly deeper on defense than we've been since 2018.
On the other hand, the QB situation is an absolute toss up. I expect someone to step up and be serviceable, but frankly that's just because it's happened every year for 15 years, so it's possible that streak ends. Depth on the DL is really relying on some young guys. And, overall, we've kind of been a undisciplined bunch of soft guys for the past 2 seasons. Is that going to change or be the same?
Love the schedule - lots of tough games but most of them at home. I think the Texas game is going to be as rowdy an atmosphere from pregame forward as we've had in a long, long time. Then after that you've got Ole Miss, Tennessee and LSU. The stadium atmosphere is going to be dynamite this season as long as the team stays in the hunt.
I feel posi-bammer about this bunch and think we go 11-1 and win the West. But I absolutely see a nightmare scenario where we go 9-3 or possibly even 8-4 if the QB situation never comes together and we have a few key injuries. There is not a lot of room for error with this schedule.

All the media declaring us dead…I think Saban has got something for them. I think Milroe will be the QB and I think he will be one of the best QBs in the SEC and the country. I think this will be our best defense since Pruitt because it no longer has a complete buffoon running it.
12-1, win SEC, and Make 4 team playoff.

You and SoG both have Bama losing a game. Is that just because you think it's inevitable the team will drop at least one, or do you have a specific game in mind that you think they'll lose?

I just think we probably lose a game. Too many good teams and close games to win them all.

Because every team always has the 1 egg they usually lay. Unless you are UGA in 2022 and 2023 where your schedule prevents it.
My guess is probably @A&M or @voodoo JHS

If they get good QB play for the year, they win the west and will make the play-off's. If the QB play is so-so, Bama will lose two and play in a decent bowl game

It’s because they’ve lost their bammer-step.
We go undefeated against the NFL. Any year.

I expect us to show out against Texas. I expect chips on shoulders and murder-ball attitudes against UT and LSU.

The OL under Marrone really shows how fricked up things got on that side of the ball. It only took one season for him to turn that group into a shite show. But I do believe Wolford did a great good turning that group around as the yr went on. It’s wasn’t a quick fix but they showed improvement by the end of the season. I hope to see big improvements even more so this yr. It’s key to everything on that side of the ball.
There’s nothing fancy about Kevin Steele. He’s not going to try and out scheme you or get cute putting 7 linebackers on the field in fricking overtime trying to confuse you.
If Steele has the talent (which I believe he does) he’s going to find and exploit a weakness especially with blitz packages and not the kind of blitz’s from 20yds away.
I see the defense being a lot more disciplined and way better LB play under Steele. Nothing fancy just hard nose physical play on defense.

Idk. It's gonna be a fun year. The whole Kevin Steele gonna come in here and simplify and get after it is horse shite. This is coach Sabans defense. Lets hope he can butt some heads. It ain't been the frickin offensive side of the balls fault the last two years.

It’s Sabans defense but he lets his coaches coach on Gameday. Guarantee Saban wasn’t the one constantly putting Hellams on Hyatt

Shouldn't this be in the mega-thread

He better improve a lot and quick.
I think Simpson wins out but after watching some ND games, we will mostly be a running team. Our defense should be significantly better as well. I fully expect us to win the west.

Agree with SOG, this team can be anywhere from 15-0 to 9-4. This team has me very excited, we’re under the radar right now and people are talking about a decline. I think defensively, we will be outstanding, especially in the back 7. The dline depth may cause some to worry but I think those guys will be more than fine.
Offensively, I think Simpson will take over and I can see a situation where he steadily grows as the season goes on. I think Simpson is the safe pick. Milroe is a wild card, I know he has struggled but is dynamic at times. IF he can figure it out, watch out!!

According to On3, we have 15 4* or better on scholarship. We should be fine or our DLine coach needs to find another job. I tend to believe he wasn’t our problem.

I am just being honest, but I think the chances are about 5% that Milroe figures it out. There are just too many issues 1) ball security. Can be improved, but when you are also trying to figure out how to 2) throw properly and 3) read defenses and make good decisions, the task is just too great.
Work on the transfer’s throwing technique and simpson’s reading defenses and go
With one of those guys.

I’m thinking Simpson/Milroe a La 2011 with a strong downhill run game and hard play action. We won’t see an OC or Saban depending on the QB to get us into the correct play and insert/change protections like Bryce had to the last 2 years.
Defensively, our back 7 should be pretty damn good. We just need some young guys on the DL to step up and show out.
I’m always optimistic and expect perfection, but a letdown at A&M or some voodoo bullshite at the Barn could deal us an 11-1 campaign.

This is the big thing with Milroe. He's an elite athlete for sure but he has been turnover prone since high school. He has the right attitude (it seems) from his few media opportunities and I'm rooting for him but turnovers are the deciding factor. He can be less than elite as a passer as long as he is running, but if we have to worry about fumbles as well as interceptions, it's going to be too much to overcome.
Best case is we get a game changing freak, worse case is we go with Simpson who can sling it and can, at a minimum, effectively direct a run-first offense.
I thunk QB will be fine.

11-1 best, 9-3 worst
