Would you be in favor of keeping him as our DC heading forward? Defensively is massively improved this year, not only from a numbers standpoint but the mentality they have and the ferocity they play with.

yes, I think if we had him the two previous years…we’d have at least 1 more Natty under Bryce Young.

Steele has done a great job; However, I hope Saban is grooming a younger coach to take the reigns in a year or two.

Yes. He has taught this team how to tackle again. Golding didn’t believe in that

Thinking Steele may retire after this season or next. I believe he is approaching 10 years with the Alabama retirement system and is therefore “vested” in the system where he can draw his retirement. TRob may be the DC in waiting.
Steele has definitely brought an “attitude” to this defense.

I would rather see him bring in someone with coordinator experience.

I’d still love to see Pruitt come back

I want Steele here until we can get Pruitt back. The difference between this team and Golding's defenses is night and day. I thought it would take multiple seasons to gain back the fundamentals lost during Golding's tenure but it's improved so quick I can't believe it.

This is an incredibly overrated reason people give for a coach staying. Retirement benefit at 10 years is 20.125% of your average gross salary for the highest 3 of the last 10 years - but the catch is that’s the base STATE salary.

Nick Saban’s 2013 contact set his total compensation in 2019 at 5.7 million. His base “state” salary was $265,000. The rest was talent and appearance fees, performance bonuses, etc. So, based on that number if Nick retired with 10 years of service his pension would be $26,000 a year.

Steele makes a lot less than Saban overall and his contract (tried but couldn’t find the details) will be structured similarly. Further, many years ago the legislature put a cap on actual retirement benefit amounts.

Nobody in Steele’s pay grade is worried about RSA benefits. It’s pocket change. The only benefit that could ever so slightly get your attention is health insurance (it’s pretty danged good and cheap compared to private coverage) but Steele is 65 and when you hit that age as an RSA retiree you automatically switch to Medicare and your state insurance becomes a secondary policy.

Unless Pruitt's show cause gets cut in half Saban will probably be retired by the time anyone can hire him. They hit him for like 6 or 7 years. He hasn't even had a coaching job in a couple of years. In other news, Will Wade is currently coaching D1 basketball and will probably be hired by OM in 5 months when Beard leaves for Louisville. The NCAA's wildly disparate punishments for similar actions are always great.

Steele has done a really good job. The difference between him and Golding is night and day. You can tell Steele is prepared each week, in sharp contrast to that drunken, fat a$$ frat boy Golding.

I'm still mystified how Golding got that job and kept it. Dude was CLUELESS most of the time.

T-Rob’s contract runs to February. I would imagine a very nice raise and co-coordinator title are on the horizon.

He’s not great, but worlds better than the idiot we had last year. I’d be in favor of retaining him unless Pruitt wants or can come back in the fold

Y’all can forget Pruitt. It’s a ten year show cause and time served wasn’t counting against it.

Absolutely I want to keep him. He’s done great work with this defense. They aren’t perfect, but you can see even in the basic fundamentals like tackling how much better they are. They have a much nastier attitude, as well.
