2011 Penn State was 8-1 before the Sandusky story blew up. Their only loss up to that time was Alabama. Kent State is Saban's alma mater so he was probably trying to get that game scheduled for a while. North Texas? Who knows? Easy win?

Teams attempt more passes on Alabama than any other team in the SEC because they know they can't run on us.

Defense is actually pretty good.

don't you think it has something to do with how the rules have changed and continue to change to favor the offense?

We scheduled a traditional power in Penn State. As a member of the SEC West, what incentive do we have to schedule more than that every year? Our SEC schedule plus the SECCG should be enough to get us in the CFP.

When's the last time Bama shut down a legitimately elite offense? For me, it was Arkansas 2011. They've struggled against every top offense since that time. IT won't take long to list them. There were the Aggy teams with Manziel, Malzahn's Auburn teams, CUM's Ohio State team last year, Oklahoma, Georgia in the 2012 SEC Championship Game and Ole Miss this year. They've struggled against them all.

I would take this front 7 over that front 7. Plus your getting to look back at a whole season of results. Including a dominating performance in BCSCG.

That team also failed to come up with a whole lot of turnovers. In fact an excuse we used was the fact that not to many teams ever got past third down enough for us to get turnovers.

They also rarely were put in bad situations due to turnovers.

They also and this is key here had a loss. In my eyes they were more at fault for not stopping the option and Jordan Jefferson than this years d for the Ole Miss loss.

So lets sit back and watch this d for a whole year and then compare all time D's.

I would be stoked to ever get a defense as reliable across the board as 2011. 2009 had more of the willpower (McClain & Arenas), but 2011 was overall more talented.

The past few years we have been lacking IMO (1) enough speed at LB (2012/2013) and enough quality depth and (2) tall cornerbacks playing in their natural position. Really that is it, but with the overall size of the receivers in the SEC, our short cb's couldn't cut it and our taller ones really didn't seem to be a good fit.

Very excited about this years d and very optimistic about our d going forward the next few years.

I think the potential is there. I think the secondary is fine, we just need to help them with a better pass rush. A tad bit more speed on the edge, and the defense could become a nightmare for offenses.

I don't think the LB corps has been nearly as strong. Ragland is terrific, but I would put him behind McClain, Hightower, Upshaw, and Mosely...and the 2011 team had three of those guys in the lineup.

Y'all need me to FedEx some Midol and Kotex before Saturday?

I'll spring for Saturday delivery if need be.

We win BIG this weekend on the back of our defense. Book it. Bet the house. Write it down.

PS - if I'm wrong, y'all send back my Midol and Kotex

See Chick I feel this can be true. On paper Georgia plays right into our hand. I'm really not convinced about Lambert's abilities. Its not like we have to make them play our game, they already do. We have to take care of the ball and not force things. Hopefully Scott can flip the field if need be and Lane actually calls a game that exposes Georgia's weaknesses. The problem is that the memories of horrible performances haunt me daily. We made Trevor Knight look like Montana and he got beat out by a walk on. I think if they play loose and relaxed they will be fine. Have to take care of that ball though.

I agree. This D is going to be very good. I don't think UGA will have much success.

To be fair, Knight made himself look like Joe Montana. Dude threw perfect strikes that day.

Lambert isn't as good as his stats but I think he's good enough to beat us if we give them short fields to work with and/or our offense isn't productive. Our defense can play lights out, but if the offense doesn't capitalize, then it won't matter. This game comes down to Coker not making any back breaking mistakes and our OL doing enough to establish some running lanes.

IMO, we can't get behind early. Our offense just doesn't have the mojo to play that role again. If we can somehow get some points early, alleviate some pressure, and develop some confidence, we can win.
