Statistically, we were a better team this year than last year.

2021

Points per game - 40
Points given up per game - 20

2022

Points Per Game - 41
Points given up per game - 18

So that's 3 points better per game than last year.

We had some really bad breaks this year but it's not like we just were terrible.

The reports of our demise are greatly exaggerated.

Yeah, and some of us have been saying since last year this team is badly coached with poor gameplanning and playcalling.

Last year we just had Jamo who is a cheat code and Bryce was able to heat up because he didn't get injured.

That analysis needs to be ran against the in conference games only no cup cakes. Wonder how much difference there would be

The offense scored 40 pts per conference game on average. The defense gave up 24 pts per conference game on average.

Absolutely. We will be in the thick of it the next two years.

We've all digested all this ad nauseam.

It boils down to the same two things every time.

Bad scheming and play calling on both sides of the ball.

Which doesn't really tell the story, because this would have you believe defense was our problem. In many games, our offense's inability to produce at key moments put our defense in impossible situations.

Offense was absolutely the biggest liability this season and I find it hard to believe anyone who watched the games would claim otherwise.

But on the flip side, when our defense needed to make a stop they folded like a cheap suit. Every time.

So what was the reason the defense had issues producing in 2019 or 2020?

The offense with Bryce had ONE game where it scored under 30 points. That's more than enough cushion for a defense to work with - especially one as talented as Alabama's. And in that same game, luckily Texas' QB got hurt early on. Otherwise they would have gashed our defense apart.

And I agree the offense was inefficient by Bama standards and I want BOB gone. But in our two losses this year, our offense produced more than enough points to win while our defense flat out got embarrassed against an LSU and Tennessee offense that inferior teams defended much better against than we did.

But it isn't. The offense has to be able to sustain drives to give the defense a breather. Our offense this season lived and died by huge plays. We rarely sustained drives and put the defense in a good position, and we often gave the other team way too much time with the ball.

How many 3 and outs did this defense cause against decent opposition? Not many.
