If the Hawks were willing to hire a college OC (running DeBoer’s offense), why didn’t they just hire DeBoer? The guy they hired has zero head coaching experience. The NFL is a weird cult in a lot of ways.

He's making $10 million as a college head coach. NFL OCs don't make anything close to that.

I’m talking about hiring DeBoer as the head coach, not OC.

Maybe CKD had no real interest in coaching the Seahawks. Maybe he did, and thought Alabama was the better opportunity.

Or maybe Byrne had him locked up before the end of the CFP, and the rest was a smoke screen?

They may have...but it seems like the NFL prefers to hire from within for HC positions. Spurrier and Meyer are two cautionary tales
