seriously? and bitching about the team after they won a hard fought road game is going to solve something?
You're right. Everyone pat them on the back and let them know they have nothing to work on!
You bitch about a win like that because we should have lost that game. They showed heart, and that is great, but they have a lot to improve on and if they don't realize that they'll never get better. If that is too much for them, they never should have came here.

where did I say we should do this?

Really, do some of you think that there is torch and pitchfork crowd gathering outside the Mal Moore Athletic Complex? There isn't. We played poorly on Saturday and the worst consensus that I've seen is that people want to see us improve because playing like that won't win us any of the big games going forward. No opinion posted on a message board will affect the team. If it does, then we have bigger issues.
If he is saying all of this to rally the team, then I understand. However, I think he can do that without coming after the fans...who are still behind this team whether you believe it or not. Those fans have every right to give their opinion. We pay high prices for tickets, travel across the country, and literally contribute to his salary. We aren't owed anything, but I think we are at least allowed to voice our opinion, positive or negative. IMO, I think he could do a better job of circling the wagons and creating positive energy in this situation instead of calling out fans...if that is his intent.

A bit off topic, but there are some morons on twitter who tag players in their rants. I'd say those are pretty destructive:
quote:
TJ Forbes @RTR_SEC · Oct 11
@jonessboyy sit your arse on that bench and stop giving away big plays. @AlabamaFTBL has a better chance with you off the field.
quote:
Michael McGoldrick @TheBigFnMike · Oct 11
@jonessboyy dumbass play ... stay on the damn bench
quote:
Lyle Atkinson @LyleAtkinson22 · Oct 11
@jonessboyy that was the dumbest thing u could have done. GET OUTTA THE WAY
Regardless of Christion's play (and y'all know Im not a fan) the guys that tweet negative things at them deserve to get their asses beat.

never said this or implied this.

My main point is that we can be happy with a hard fought victory and realize that we need improvement, all at the same time. Thats all.

as does he.

Agreed. However that is the exception, not the rule and I imagine you could find that at nearly every program in every sport in the country.

Wait, who isn't happy about winning?
I was celebrating more than anyone when LC26 made that pick.
I'm happy about the win.
I'm happy the team gave heart.
I'm not happy about the mistakes made by players who are supposed to be leaders. I hope they improve.
I think most people feel the same way.

Those people,
Though I can't speak for Jones, if I was a player I'd encourage those tweets towards me (not my teammates) so I know I'm not meeting expectations.

No, no, us fans have EVERY RIGHT to voice these opinions. Saban should shut his trap about that stuff and quit attacking fans!
Look, I am not even referring to people on here when I say that fans need to chill out. We all have our disagreements, but at the end of the day, we generally don't personally attack players, or call them names.
But there are plenty that do, and those are the ones the fricking suck, and those are the ones Saban is referring to.

So because it happens all around the country, Saban should just put his head down and not say anything. Okay.

I've never understood why they have public Twitter accounts, much less accounts at all. They're akin to talking to the police in an investigation: there's no way it's a good idea.
It used to be that you had to write a letter. And given that the game was on Saturday and the mail didn't run until Monday, you had time to calm your arse down before doing something really stupid. Now, these morons can tweet an insult within seconds of the incident and since it's limited to 140 characters, they need only be semi-literate.
On the other hand, as one of my UA profs used to say, if someone critiques your work and doesn't come back with at least a short list of things that need work, they're either trying to sandbag you, lying to you, lazy, or you're Jesus. In an earlier press conference, Saban himself made the comment about having to be responsible for errors and mistakes. Accepting constructive criticism is part of that. It's fair to question why Jones is still returning kicks when he seems unable to do it without fumbling. It's fair to question the conduct of special teams in general, save punting. It's fair to question the handling of the offensive line. It's not fair to make comments like those you referenced on Twitter., particularly when you make them directly to a 19/20 yo child (and I don't mean that as an insult to 19/20 yos).

I wouldn't have had a problem if we had played well and won 14-13. However, we made a ton of mistakes, offense sucked, and we continue with penalties and turnovers. My feelings about last week had more to do with how we played than the actual score.

Stop discrediting the entire team. It wasn't what we wanted, but we learned to fight and win a close game. We haven't won a close game (less than 10 point victory) in a while.
Absolutely agree.
And people can be critical of Sims...that's fine, he certainly has earned some of that. But the guy also led the team on a 4th quarter drive to come from behind and take the lead, and went 3/3 on that drive. I've got no problem with being critical of him when he makes mistakes...the execution on the QB sneak was just dumb...but give the guy credit when he does things well.
And I also noticed at the time the amount of emotion after LC's pick. Good for them.

Yeah, and the biggest ST mistakes are coming from a damn senior.
And people then extend that to the whole team and say that the team doesn't play with heart.

Maybe I'm a little offbase here, but I don't think Saban lecturing the fans is going to solve anything. Maybe it sparks something among the team, but if he wants to create positive energy around the program, there are better methods than attacking the fans for being honest after Saturday's game.
The hell there is. Fans complaining that his team isn't playing with any heart? He damn well better attack them. Players are just fine with the coach dropping F bombs when they screw up if they know that the coach will go to war with anyone who questions their heart.

Of course you're allowed to voice your opinion. And so is he. And I suspect he created a helluva lot of positive energy among his players when they see him sticking up for them in the media.

no one who uses twitter for anything should get upset how twitter is used in reference to them ... twitter/social media/etc is a 2-way street ... doesn't excuse anything, but anyone who has a twitter account should know there are idiots out there with no boundaries on what they'll say ...
