This is my first time ticket watching for a playoff game. Should I pull the trigger and buy now or wait closer to game time? Also, are scalpers still a thing at the Rose Bowl?

Might have some chance to buy a commemorative paper ticket but the app gets you in the door.

Pure speculation but I reckon tickets for a game in a 90000 seat stadium with a month of down time would drop a bit

No such thing as guys standing on the corner in trench coats. All extinct. If you see anybody like that selling, the tix are fake.
The scalpers are named Stub Hub, Ticket Master, Seat Geek, etc.
If you are patient they should go down 1-2 days before the game to about $200 per I would guess. You can always get them at today's price if you wait.

Thanks guys. I’m flying out regardless but I’ll wait it out and buy that Saturday or Sunday.
