If Lane leaves, I think it could be a real possibility. Richt seemed to want to coach quarterback and be an OC again from his presser. Thoughts?

We go from an OC who took a big time program to 10 wins as a HC to another? That'd be interesting, if anything.

Richt was a lights out playcaller in tallahassee, and has always fared well when primarily coaching QBs.

charlie ward
chris weinke
david greene
dj shockley
matt stafford
aaron murray

Teams could do a hell of a lot worse than having richt as a position coach or coordinator.

I think it'd be a good higher, but I feel like he could get a HC job somewhere. Why become an OC again? I didn't watch the presser though.

He will have several HC opportunities. I would not expect him to drop to a coordinator position.
He doesn't carry the attitude , nor the subpar record , that Muschamp carried last year.

I mean...if that's an option hell yeah. That would be about as good as it gets for an OC hire imo.

I just really doubt he would want to do that though.

Just saw what he said about wanting to work closer with offense and QBs. If he wants to be an OC over a HC that's very unexpected, he may just mean at his next HC job he wants to do that. If he actually wants to be an OC there is no better option than Bama is Lane is gone. We'd probably have to make him the highest paid coordinator, but it'd be worth it.

It's such a long shot though that at this point it is simply a fun idea.

He said he love to call plays and coach quarterbacks in his presser.

Certainly. If I had to pick any college coach in the country to be an OC right now, Richt would probably be number 1a, with Spurrier 1b. Kiffin and McElwain a very close 2 behind those guys.

But I don't think it's happening.

Maybe he doesnt want all the responsibility that comes with being a HC, and just wants to get back to his roots so to speak. Lane Kiffins stock is about as high as its going to get IMO and i think he gets another HC gig just not at a big time program

I do think he'll draw interest as HC from Miami and Virginia. But....He's made plenty of money. Why not take a position of less pressure and less responsibility and actually hands-on coach and do what you love and still make close to a million (or more). I think an OC position is not out of the question by any means.

Right now this is just such a long shot, but because it's a fun idea I do wanna say that Saban has been sticking up for Richt. IF, and that's an enormous IF, Richt wanted to be an OC I can't imagine anyone else could sway him. We could pay him the most to be an OC and we are loaded with offensive talent.

Though IF he really wanted to be an OC I think Texas could also potentially lure him in.

Agreed. But id have to think if Saban offered him the OC job and Strong also he would be in Tuscaloosa no doubt. I could def see him being an OC for a few years because lets face it, how many years was it that he was on the hot seat at Georgia? I wouldnt blame him at all. Les Miles better be calling him.

Another thing, Richt doesnt have that selfish attitude or ego that would prevent him from being a great OC and it being a smooth transition.

Suppose in this hypothetical scenario that he wants to be an OC, one advantage other programs may have is that we may not know Kiffin's fate for a while. Maybe he wants to stay another year and maybe Saban wants him to. But if Saban feels Richt was interested I hope he reaches out and tells him we'll give him more money and more toys than anyone if he just waits a few weeks.

Again, completely hypothetical.

wow, can you imagine how it would be if richt walked into a living room recruiting for bama

but seriously? would he want to grind like saban and crew do. he just doesnt strike me as a guy that would be inclined to do that.

besides, dude can pretty much hand pick the job he wants. who knows, he may end up being the ad at ga

Judging by what he said in his presser, I think he wants to coach, more specifically OC/QB coach. Maybe of none of the OC jobs he feels he right for come open he may do the admin thing but i dont think its his first choice

I could see him becoming an OC/QB coach in the NFL great fit in my opinion

But if we want to say it to say then let's say Smart and Kiffin both take HC jobs and we replace them with Richt and Strong

Richt is going to be a HC somewhere. It would be nice, but the man just got fired for winning 9 games. On top of this, he just said he definitely wants to keep coaching.
