Ole Miss Rivals is saying that they've heard rumors that Pruitt tops the list for the Rebs. I don't think he'd leave due the NCAA mess but it could be interesting because they'd be willing to pay

Edited to add link to website. Discussed on podcast with picture of Pruitt

More power to him, but I think this would be a bad move.

Ole Miss will be forced to hire a legacy.

No one in their right mind would take a job with them.

When Pruitt leaves, is it a foregone conclusion that Tosh will be his successor?

I sure hope so.

Eh, there's also the Peter Principle. Tosh has been doing great in his role, I'd hate to see that get messed up.

how do you know Tosh wont make a great DC? He has been training his whole life for something like this. Now not all DC's or OC's make great HC's

Can't see Pruitt even giving that job even a once over. That place will seem like Hiroshima after the bomb was dropped when the NCAA gets finished. That isn't someone's ideal first HC gig.

As for Tosh eventually filling the DC shoes when Pruitt does in fact leave, that is highly possible. Tosh would likely continue to coach up his OLB guys and Saban would hire a new ILB coach. It would keep the transition as seamless as possible.

I could see Pruitt as one of their top options but no different then Texas having Saban at the top of their list. Colleges have to go after the top candidates but that does not equate to the coach having any interest.

Plus Saban asst coaches have yet to prove anything as a HC in the SEC

This right here.

Saban couldn't go 6-6 with the restrictions they're going to be facing. Any new coach without a reputation for success is going to be the scapegoat for the bad seasons they're sure to have. Just not a smart move for a guy (Pruitt or anyone else) with top tier FBS potential.

They'll pretty much have 3 realistic choices.

1) Legacy or unknown assistant that will be getting huge raise and is willing to take the hit because they aren't getting another chance at this level.

2) FCS or lower division coach that isn't as challenged by operating with fewer scholarships and is used to finding quality recruits and walk ons others miss.

3) Older head coach that isn't getting looks from other big programs but still wants to be in the game and can lead a program in tough times. Les Miles, for example. He has a squeaky clean NCAA record and will put a quality product on the field. Mike Riley after Nebraska cans him at the end of the season would be another reasonable possibility.

Options 2 and 3 would be the best choices for the program, but if Bjork is still in charge he'll screw it up the way he's screwed everything up thus far and take choice #1.

They're us post Stallings so it's probably going to get even worse for them.

I don't, but we also don't know if he would and that's the point.

I would be fine with it, make Tosh DC. Bama has to keep Tosh for recruiting.

I'd rather roll the dice and give Tosh the DC position than risk losing him. We need to do everything possible to keep him.

I agree, this would be career suicide. I know everyone has to "learn" on their own, but the best thing Ole Miss can do is let Luke coach the team for the next 4 years. Concede that you are a bottom dweller for the next 4 years and take your lumps. Maybe in 3 years when you are nearing the end of your arse raping you can convince someone to come and rebuild.

Outside of Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoobs, Jesus Christ, nobody in college football will make a winning program out of the Charle Foxtrot that is Ole Miss.

Also from what else I've seen here are their top candidates

*This list is dependent on just a 1 year bowl ban which is what OM thinks will happen
Mike Norvell
Jeff Brohm (Has ties with Ole Miss AD)
Jermey Pruitt
Frank Wilson
Mike MacIntyre

MacIntyre supposedly has serious interest in the job; however, Ole Miss has some major questions about how he handled the domestic violence issue on his staff at Colorado

My point is even though Pruitt is mentioned, they are targeting others as well and it's early

Taking a probation riddled program would just be stupid. He fails, and his HC career could be over. Smart gave Pruitt the blue-print to land a nice HC job....be a great DC year in and year out and be patient.

Yeah because Ole Miss has really become a school known for their integrity.

Pruitt to OM ? No. Funny they think that is possible, but no.

If that's the list someone laid out, then they aren't doing anything but fantasizing. Almost all of those are the OM versions of John Gruden or Chip Kelly to Tennessee.

Brohm and MacIntyre currently have jobs that are as good or better than a probation-free Ole Miss.

With the schedule left, Norvell is in a position to win 9 or more games this season at Memphis on top of 8 last year. If he wants to go somewhere else, he'll have his pick of many jobs better than a probation laden Ole Miss.

Wilson is more reasonable, but he's in a very similar position to Norvell. The schedule they've got left sets up for at least another bowl year so he might also have his pick of jobs.
