I've beat the Pruitt drum as hard as anyone. He's the best DC Saban has ever had. We'd probably have him several years too. Please let this be true.

I'm gonna be highly upset if this isn't true or if we don't find anyone comparable

So, hypothetically, if Saban can't find Golding a landing spot, presumably you could move Golding to Co-DC/Safety (he coached DBs before coming to Bama) and Pruit to Co-DC/ILB.

Golding would be "Co-DC" in name only and Pruitt would actually be calling the plays, but I just don't recall Saban ever really embarrassing someone by demoting them (kinda similar to when Tosh and Golding were Co-DCs but Golding eventually took over calling plays).

Kevin Steele was basically demoted after 2007. Kirby became the DC in 2008.

Yeah, but didn't Saban give him the "Associate Head Coach" title along with coaching ILBs? So it was a demotion of sorts, but Saban didn't just demote him from a coordinator position to a position coach without adding another title.

ETA: AL.com says he was the "defensive head coach" in 2008 although I have no idea what the heck that title means

Would love to see him back as DC, but it's hard to believe the conference would approve it. The NCAA still hasn't settled Tennessee's case have they? So he could still get a show cause, eventually? If we hire him, then we'd have to know all that was settled.

That was my guess. But apparently Pruitt believes it's a done deal.

Frick the conference. They shouldn’t get to tell teams who they can hire. They certainly don’t do Alabama any favors. If I’m Saban I tell them to kiss my arse.

After the hugh freeze hire at Auburn, There's nothing they can do about that.

Pruitt - I didn't think it was going to happen.... I thought it was impossible.. I thought it was gonna be as analyst or something like that.

Maybe Im wrong, but it seems like the SEC commissioner stated a year or so ago that the SEC doesnt have the power to tell schools who that can hire. They can give their opinion. But what happens if the ncaa gives Pruitt a show cause in 6 months?

My guess is if Alabama hires him, the show cause will not happen. The NCAA is well past their days of poking the bear...they're just trying to save their own arse.
