Alabama Crimson Tide

–While Fournette was struggling on the other side, both Derrick Henry (+3.0) and Kenyan Drake (+2.8) were tearing up the Tigers. They combined for 278 rushing yards on 48 carries, forcing 13 combined missed tackles. Henry in particular was a monster, earning a +6 rushing grade despite a bad fumble in the fourth quarter.

–The Alabama offensive line was dominant in this game, with four of the five starters earning strong grades, as did Michael Nysewander as an extra blocker. That group allowed only two total pressures in the game.

–The defense was full of strong performances, but perhaps the best came from the seven snaps of Tim Williams up front. In seven pass rushes, Williams earned a sack, hit and three hurries, which was more than any other player in the game.

Top performers:

DE Tim Williams (+3.8)

LT Cam Robinson (+3.7)

RB Derrick Henry (+3.0)

LB Shaun Dion Hamilton (+3.0)

RG Alphonse Taylor (+2.9)

He needed that, he's been down this year, hopefully he gets back on track.

I don't think I remember SDH 's name called all night. But Dillon Lee had a hell of a game.

According to those stats combined with stats found on CFB Filmroom in the last 5 games Williams has tallied:

4 sacks
10 hurries
3 QB hits
1 pass deflection

and this is in a limited number of snaps. Dude is turning out to be a monster.

Who was it on our team who said Tim Williams could be the most dominant pass rusher in CFB? Looks like that's fairly accurate.

Got so annoyed when we decided to blitz them on some of those 3rd and longs because we were getting so much pressure with just 3 or 4 guys and Harris really can't throw in to any tight windows. That corner blitz where they threw a TD was especially bad.

I think it was one possession where we rushed 6 on a 3rd and long and they got it. The following 3rd and long on the same drive we only rushed 3 and would have gotten a sack if not for the holding they called on the guy Williams beat.

The one big play they had we brought a corner blitz and left Mo Smith on their best receiver for the 50yard bomb. They didn't even have LF1.6 in either.

Cyrus was a fraction slow and he hesitated slightly before attacking the QB.That was enough for the QB to complete the pass.Think only Minkah and Humphrey are fast enough for a corner blitz.

More PFF love:

quote:

Easily a top-three unit in the nation, the Crimson Tide defense has zero players with at least 90 snaps below +1.1 and no starter sports a worse grade than +5.1. The defensive line is anchored by NT Jarran Reed, our fourth-best DT/NT at +37.0, while the second level is manned by ILB Reggie Ragland (+21.4, fifth in nation). With depth and productivity, Alabama’s defense overpowers their opposition and getting into a slugfest is a bad idea. I’d be foolish to not mention situational pass rusher Tim Williams who has 28 total pressures (five sacks, four hits, 19 hurries) in just 75 pass rush snaps.

We're gonna have a good front 7 next year but we'll miss this depth

Yes, Tim Williams is a situational Edge Rusher as an OLB. Da'Shawn Hand is basically the same as a DE but gets even fewer Reps. Rashaan Evans is our resident QB spy. Reuben Foster doesnt even start in the Base 3-4, nor does Jonathan Allen.

BTW, Aside from Williams all those guys are 5-Star recruits.
