Kudos to the poster over there, abrellbama5818, for putting this together.

quote:

I took the top 12 teams in the AP Poll to see who each team played and how many wins/losses these teams have.

1. Clemson-62 wins-58 losses Have 6 teams with a losing record on their schedule.

2. Ohio St-62-59 Has 5 teams with a losing record on their schedule.

3. Alabama-75-44 Only has 1 team (ULM) with a losing record on their schedule.

4. Ok St-61-57 Has 5 teams with a losing record on their schedule.

5. ND-66-53 Has 6 teams with a losing record on their schedule.

6. Iowa-57-64 Has 7 teams with a losing record on their schedule.

7. Ok-64-64 Has 4 teams with a losing record on their schedule.

8. Fl-59-59 Has 6 teams with a losing record on their schedule.

9. Mich St-66-55 Has 4 teams with a losing record on their schedule.

10.Baylor-59-60 Has 6 teams with a losing record on their schedule.

11.TCU-57-61 Has 7 teams with a losing record on their schedule.

12.No Caro-59-61 Has 5 teams with a losing record on their schedule.

I find it very strange that while all these talking heads, no one ever mentions this. I mean they gush over Clemson but they played a 4-6 Wofford, 3-7 Ga Tech, 3-7 BC, 3-7 Syracuse and their last 2 games are against 3-7 WF and 3-7 SC.

Pretty convincing argument IMO.

This has been a really strong schedule. If we go 14-1 against it, plus Florida and two Playoff teams, that's gotta be one of the best seasons in recent memory.

The only thing people want to talk about is our loss, but the committee cares about who you've beaten. We should be ranked number one given our schedule compared to those cupcakes ones.

10, 11 and 12 - opponents' overall have losing record.

Oh, and if polls sucked so bad why is this essentially what the bogus committee comes up with each week? Please bring back the BCS formula and do away with the randomness of the committee.

Abrell certainly has her moments over there (good and bad) but yeah, she brought it with that analysis. Female poster though, not a guy, fwiw.

We've definitely had the strongest strength of schedule among the contenders this year...my concern is that we had a much stronger SOS last year compared to OSU but it didn't seem to matter too much when they whupped us in the semi-final...hopefully we learned a lot from last season...

Ohio State was just a better team last year. I think Cooper's otherworldly season masked a bunch of our flaws.

Maybe Ohio State will turn it on again, but I'd be surprised if they won both of their next two games.

I go on Landthieves to see them bitch about the rankings. Last week the narrative was if they win out they should get in over ND even though ND has the head to head over Texas. Now, since they realize ND won't drop unless they lose, they are saying that we shouldn't be ranked in the top 4 because we lost Ole Miss.

Some truth in this, but a lot of our problems in that game had to do with personnel on defense. If we had used Foster instead of Depreist and put Williams in, I think we could have come out better on a lot of those 3rd and longs. We didn't do a good job of fully using our talent advantage.

Injuries to Collins and Ragland killed us in that game. Now I do think Kiffin's decision to go away from the run hurt us, as Henry was gashing them running behind Cam and Arie, but on one of those Elliott TD runs, SDH got sucked in too far.

Also, we caught hell trying to tackle Cardale. I don't think we were ready for his ability to run downfield. They were the better team (that day) for sure, but I don't think it was by a significant margin.

Let's not forget the teams with byes before they play Alabama.

I think what people lose sight of is that while teams like UGA, A&M, and LSU were not as good as their ranking reflected at the time, they were still undefeated when Alabama played them. Their mentality and body of work is totally different leading up to the game than it is following a loss.

Yep, and also teams are playing these squads after the best Coaching Staff in America has dissected them and provided a template of how to beat them.

Along with the factor that teams are normally physically drained or simply beat up (i.e. Ole Miss and Texas A&M) after playing Alabama.

Notre Dame has beaten a number slightly above average teams.
USC is up and down, but good win.
Navy has only lost the one game, Temple is not awful. Pittsburgh is ok.
All of those teams would be around. 500 in the SEC east. Maybe.
It will be a good game with Stanford.

You could be right and normally I'd agree with you...but if they follow last year's pattern I just don't know...they seemed to play just well enough to win, with several unimpressive wins (and 1 loss) against inferior competition...and then when the real games mattered they were able to flip the switch, even with a 3rd string QB...good thing is, Bama underestimated OSU last year but I don't see that happening this go 'round, if we get a rematch...

I have been watching the UA since 1968 and this is the best defense especially the front 7 and the secondary is improving each game, The 92 defense was very good the 92 team had a better secondary but not the front 7 Kudos to Saban and the defensive line coach and Kirby Smart. Roll Tide

I've been going back and forth with this guys on Landthieves. Their argument is the Big 12 is tougher because they all play 9 conference games and that the SEC has a built in advantage because we only play 8. Never mind the fact that outside of the top 4, OU, OSU, Baylor and TCU, that only Tech has 6 wins. Their argument to that is well West Virgina, ISU, Texas and K-State are good teams, but the record doesn't reflect it because they all have losses to the top 4, but beat each other adding in more losses. You can't explain to them that they lose because they aren't good teams and the Big is really 2 good teams, 2 solid teams, 4 meh teams and 2 trash teams.
