I hope the team does not watch this. It can breed overconfidence. And overconfidence is a terrible disease.

Haven't seen a lot of conversation on here about the Peach Bowl. On paper, we should handle Washington fairly easily. The only time they faced athletes that are of the same caliber, it was USC. They also haven't faced a defense near the level that they will see on NYE.

However, Browning will be the best QB we have seen since Ole Miss. If you watch some highlights, he can throw the football into some tight spots. Ross is also a hell of a WR. No doubt Browning will try to get the ball out quick and try to connect on a deep balls. Couple that with the fact that Peterson is arguably the best coach in the country outside of Tuscaloosa & Columbus, then I think there's reason to think this will be a closer game than some think. Peterson made his career on beating teams with more talent when he had time to prepare. Don't see this as Michigan State Part 2 and I certainly don't think we can afford to dick around on offense. Would be nice to see us play some ball control in the first half where we have some long drives that end up with TDs and help keep their offense off the field.

Can see this being a 31-20 type game.

I agree. As good as this defense is, we've shown a tendency to allow a lot of yards through the air. We've been able to overcome that with timely interceptions / sacks, but if Browning is on his game, we'll have a dogfight on our hands.

The old saying is big-time players make big-time plays in big-time games. I believe this to be true. Saban has even said that this team is fortunate that it has an unheard of amount of play makers of this caliber. There will be an OJ Howard or two in these next two games. Washington will come to play but Bama can and does beat you in so many ways. Barring a meltdown by Hurts we got this.

Did you watch the Pac-12 championship game? He was underthrowing nearly every deep ball. Our safeties should feast on that.

I read somewhere that Browning was hurt during that game and it could've caused the poor performance. Not sure if that's 100% true or not.

Here is their game against USC cut down to just the plays: 30 min video

My take:

WA:
Be mindful of their short and intermediate passing routes.
Ross, cover him and don't kick off to him.
Make their QB move. (more on this)

QB is accurate on deep balls with feet set. Make him move and hit him so that we get into his head and make that internal clock jump forward a second. Just like Arkansas.

Their backs suck at pass protection.

Their D-line is only effective with stunts and blitzes

AL:
OJ should feast. Their pass D is soft in the middle. (LBs are having to support run D constantly)

Run straight at them and mix in outside pitches to keep LBs honest.

Their punt return team is suspect.

If they hit 50+ yards rushing I will be pissed.

ETA: Damn I wished we would have gotten Adore Jackson.

The "knock" on Browning (per the Washington fanbase) is once he's rattled and not allowed to get in to a ryhtem, he's terrible. They said that is why USC was able to beat UW.

Watching the Washington-USC game, that was my take as well. He looked lost out there and his composure got worse as the game went on.

It really is all going to be on Browning's shoulders.

I posted some stats in a thread a week or so ago about his splits (and Washington's splits) against Top 20 defenses and against the rest, and they are staggering. He's been near perfect against defenses ranked from #30-125, but he's been pretty average to bad against Top 30 defenses (USC, Stanford, Utah, Colorado). And not big plays and turnovers bad like Allen and Kelly were, but can't hit the broadside of the barn bad. And he was at his worst when the pocket was collapsing (USC is the best example). That really seems to bolster the rhythm passer argument. I also think it adds to the fact that Peterson is a fantastic coach, but that there are limits to Washington's skillsets and they manifest themselves against very good defensive lines who disrupt their timing and rhythm.

So, I think the matchups are pretty good there. But Peterson will have a great plan and they have very skilled players on the outside.
