Three games are now in the books in Alabama’s 2016-17 season, including its first taste of SEC competition. And the top-ranked Crimson Tide is now 3-0 (1-0 SEC) after its 48-43 win over Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon.

Here, BamaOnLine takes a look at Alabama’s rankings in several statistical categories from a national and Southeastern Conference standpoint through three weeks of the 2016 season. Stats were acquired from CFBstats.com.

OTHER STATS

- The 527 yards it gave up to Ole Miss, including 421 yards through the air, dropped Alabama’s total defensive average to 320 yards after a strong start to the season. The Tide is tied with one other team in terms of total defense, and that’s its upcoming opponent, Kent State. The Golden Flashes are 1-2 entering their Week 4 trip to Tuscaloosa, having only defeated Monmouth.

- Last season, Alabama led the nation with 52 sacks. Through three games, the Crimson Tide has registered nine sacks, which is T-24th nationally. The Florida Gators lead the country with 16 sacks. Three other SEC teams are also ahead of Alabama in terms of sacks in Texas A&M (12), LSU (11) and Arkansas (10). Kent State has also produced nine sacks so far.

- Sophomore running back Damien Harris is ranked 20th nationally with his rushing average of 109 yards through the first two weeks. Within the SEC, Harris has ran for the fifth-most yards with 327 and leads the league with his 9.08 yard per carry average. Of tailbacks with at least 10 carries this year, Harris’ 9.08-yard average per touch is ranked 11th in the country.

- Freshman Jalen Hurts have proven to be a true dual-threat quarterback in three games and two starts. After leading the Tide with 146 yards in its win over Ole Miss, Hurts is the SEC’s 11th best rusher with 65.67 yards per game, while he is 7th in passing with an average of 187.7 yards. The true freshman is ranked 47th nationally with 253.3 total yards of offense.

I honestly was way too out of it during the game. Was he really that bad? I'm going to research it today. What should I be looking for?

I like where we are at right now. We always seem to come out sluggish out of the gates in the beginning of the season. D Harris is having a good start to the season. J Hurts for a TF QB to do what he has already is impressive especially on the road at Ole Miss. We have put together a great offensive game from start to finish but still almost avg 500yds a game and 46 points a game. Not to mention 100% redzone scoring.

With Stewart maybe being out this week or two I would love to see Diggs in his spot. Cooper came in as a TF because of an injury and the same for Ridley last year. I think Diggs could be that guy this year.

Is Brown set to come back as a CB because I always felt he would be a better safety?

He was fricking terrible. Zero effort. He bit hard on play fakes when he should have maintained coverage. Just a total lack of awareness.

From some dude on BOL:

quote:

Guys I have a close friend of the family that is close with Pruitt and his family and dropped this little nugget. He told me after all the interviews were done and Saban spoke with the team in the lockeroom post game Allen and Eddie Jackson gathered the defense together and they had come to Jesus moment with each other. He said each one of them looked at each other and said this ain't bama defense and we didn't pick up each other and they took accountability each and everyone of them. He said Allen stated off and said I am John but I am part of the best defense in college football and I vow to stand by my brothers on the team and do my part to make this defense what we think it ought to be the best in the country. All the starters and defensive players repeated after Allen and they started jumping up and down and singing the fight song. Not an insider I just thought I would share this with the board cool story and I loved it when I heard it this defense with play with an edge and drive I wanted to run through a brick wall when I heard it

Called multitasking as I was sending an email to someone and I guess when I was trying to pull an email address up from my contact list I typed it on the wrong screen.

I am not sure what the D is so upset about or our fans. I can not remember the last time I have seen a QB hit WRs with such accuracy that Kelly did on Saturday. You could not have asked for some better throws and many of those I am not sure we could of covered any better then what we did.

Hopefully that is the moment of galvanization for this team. It happened after losses to Ole Miss the past two seasons.

Its also huge that a few of the Senior leaders (Ryan/Jon/Eddie) and likely team captains stepped up with HUGE plays on Saturday. Reuben was also a beast out there, laying wood when the opportunities were there.

Ronnie is young and emotional, but he is a freak athletically. Hootie appears to be coming around, so when Tony gets back we should be looking at a pretty deep and versatile secondary.

Agree but I think Kelly may be a better passer. I also do not see us facing another QB near either of their abilities until the playoffs.

Bo in a Jalston Fowler-esque role would be pretty nasty. I agree with you on Diggs. He looks so calm but electric with the ball in his hands. Reminds me of #3 in some ways.

Bo would be a mismatch that most teams would struggle with and Diggs would give us another Ridley type player on the field.
