Not since the 2004 college football season had Alabama suffered a major injury to its starting QB. We had been on an extraordinary streak of luck which had blessed our program with wins and championships. That streak of luck came to an end in the latter half of the 2019 season when Tua Tagovailoa went down, first with a high ankle sprain, and finally with a dislocated hip. Before his injury against Tennessee in October, Alabama's offense was perhaps at its most prolific in Tide history with the likes of Jerry Jeudy, DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, Najee Harris, and Henry Ruggs III balling out at an elite level. Even after Tua went down, Mac Jones flashed the stuff that would make him such a prolific and dangerous passer in the very near future.

Can't think of a team more snakebitten by bad luck than the 2019 team. Injuries made it impossible for Alabama to even begin to affect Burrow as a passer and Tua got hurt two weeks prior to the biggest game of the season. Looked rusty in the first half and that proved to be the difference. Tua got hurt on the last possession he was likely to play in that game in Starkville. Had a chance to sneak in at #4 but Jordan-Hare voodoo got them.
Just brutal...

5 critical injuries ruined that season.
Tua threw 33 TDs in basically 7 and a half games. Should have a two more, a Ruggs TD was ruled a rush and a TD to a TE was called back as out of bounds when replays showed he wasn't. Bama quick snapped the ball and had a rush TD instead.
Tua was on pace for almost 70 TDs that year.

Giving up 34 points to that very poor Auburn offense might have been the low point for Golding, and that's really saying something.
