8. Alabama center Ryan Kelly is a hot guy in the second half of the first round. “No way he gets past 20 or so,” said one glum scout who works for a team drafting in the bottom third of the first round. “He could go to the Colts at 18. Perfect fit for Andrew Luck for the next 10 years.” I mock-drafted Kelly to Arizona at 29, but I don’t believe the Cardinals think they’ll have a chance at him then.

He talks a bit about him as well in the video at the top of the link. They pick who they feel is the biggest lock in the draft to become a multiple time pro bowler.

I have heard other guys like Mayock and Daniel Jeremiah say some similar things. They all seem to share the same belief that he might be the safest pick in the entire first round.

I don't think the Bama nation gave the kid credit for as good as he is.

I know I didn't.

I feel like a good bit did when everyone noticed the dropoff we had last season when he got hurt at Ole Miss, but I definitely feel like we never really recognized just how awesome he was.

I've defended the hell out of him the last few seasons.

Him going in the 1st is kinda makes it all worth it

Yeah he's one of the few guys I've heard nothing but positive things about from analysts the last few weeks (which makes me scared he's going to be a huge draft day slide ). Definitely an underrated player for us the last 3 years. Comes with the territory on the interior OL though. Love to see him go to the Colts or Cardinals and win a couple Super Bowls.

I remember when he committed there were Ohio State fans saying things like CNS would greyshirt or process him. I don't know why they cared since OSU didn't offer. They took Brian Bobek instead IIRC

Key player for our national championship. Without him, we wouldn't have won it and I doubt Henry would've won the Heisman.

I agree, but we sure should have with the drop off we saw when he was out those few games injured.

Bama was up 14-3 and on like a 7 minute drive to start the 2nd half against Ole Miss in 14 and running the ball at will. Kelly gets hurt, the drive stalls and Bama does nothing on offense the rest of the game. Kelly doesn't get injured, Bama likely wins the game. I'm just glad Ohio St never offered him in HS.

friend of mine who was a 40 year coach at college and then NFL says OL like Kelley are valuable as they can play numerous spots on the OL. He said most rosters only carry about 7-8 OL and if you can cross train and do numerous spots you are a valuable asset. I can see him doing all 5 spots with his size. He could fill in at the tackle spot should need be. I would love for him to go first round and give Bama 4 tonight. I plan on watching entire first round.

Kelly was probably the perfect player to replace a Bama legend in Barret Jones. Guy did a lot of things right and was a solid leader. On top of this, he's probably going to have a long solid career in the NFL.

Just to admit that I'm a dumbass. I always thought Vlachos was a better center.
