Now that Maryland has fired DJ Durkin just one day after massive backlash over his reinstatement, experts have begun to starting compiling candidates to take over the job full-time.

Interim head coach Matt Canada has the led the Terrapins to a 5-3 season while replacing Durkin and could be in line to get the job at the end of the season.

However, Fox Sports Reporter Bruce Feldman believes that Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley could be a possible candidate.

Locksley was the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Maryland from 2012-2015 and served as the interim head coach in 2015 after Randy Edsall was terminated. He has been on Alabama's staff since 2016.

If that happens I assume Enos will be the O.C. for UA.

Why would Maryland hire a guy who had similar issues as a head coach to the coach they just fired?

According to the article, Canada has done pretty well replacing the other guy. I don't know why they wouldn't hire him permanently.

Have you ever noticed how these type stories always pop up the week before a big game? Never fails.

I'm not sure Locksley would be a good PR hire and to be honest, if I'm Locksle or any other big name coordinator, I wouldn't touch that job.

There will be too many eyes on the program and if a player gets pissed off, I could see accusations being thrown out left and right. It's a toxic job that will remain that way for a while

I mean, I think this is basically just Bruce Feldman's opinion, not necessarily inside info.

However, if it's true, I would move Enos right into the OC slot and roll on.

ETA: And bring in Tee Martin in some capacity, I read where he was just demoted at USC.

Seriously doubt this. Locksley would be better off waiting another year. Better job.

yep lol. But I think it’s bc late in the season is when coaches are usually fired and that’s also around the time we have our biggest games

It wouldn't surprise me if they promote Canada ASAP without even doing a search. He's done well as interim HC, especially in such difficult circumstances, and the program needs stability now. They plan to pay Durkin's full buyout and have to pay a BIG settlement for the kid's death, huge medical costs, legal fees etc. It won't cost that much to promote Canada and they can probably retain all of the current staff too. It could prove difficult to attract and hire anyone who's a clearly better lower risk option and it would be disruptive and costly to replace the entire coaching staff.

Surprised they're not giving FSU OC a look, he was well-regarded there.

What happened with Tee? I was under the impression that he was a pretty great recruiter/coordinator?

With someone mentioning the issues he's had in the past as a coach, i looked up Locksley on Wikipedia. Apparently he has a hot wife that's a yoga instructor.

Wow. I did not know one of Locksley's players died under his watch. Learn something new every day.

His offenses haven't exactly set the world on fire. That's what happened.

I feel like Tee was an analyst with no experience on that CSS show just a few years ago. Guess I'm getting old.

While it's certainly logical to say Locksley is a "candidate" for the Maryland, it's also logical to say anyone else is. I'm a candidate, too. I also like me some Bruce Feldman. Guy does a good job.

But...

It makes no sense for a guy like Locksley, who got that primo Wall Street internship a couple years back, finally got called up to the big show with the big boys, and then returns back to his college gig at Abercrombie and Fitch 'cause they offered him the management position. It's just nonsense.

Additionally, you see very, very few coaches get a taste of the SEC talent and what can be accomplished with it, and then move their careers back to some middling, difficult-to-recruit-to school north of the Mason Dixon or west of well, Texas.

Locksley is regarded in coaching circles as a VERY sharp mind and ace recruiter, and it's in his best interest to stay right where he's at, shoot laser beams at defenses for a few years, and coach his way into getting a proper head coaching position.

Coaching for Nick Saban, assuming you've got the stuff, is Miracle Grow for a coaching career. And I'd bet Locksley or anyone in his shoes will not go to a place that's anything less than a excellent school to recruit to.
