Mal Moore made some splash hires through his tenure as director including the biggest power creep hire of all time in Nick Saban, but I always felt several big hires held up the athletic department as a whole. Softball, gymnastics, basketball for a time, football near the end etc. god bless his soul, but I think Greg Byrne is just on a different level as an AD.

Perhaps he’s helped by a more solid foundation laid by Bill and Mal and Nick being around, but Greg just seems to me to always be one step ahead.

Just my opinion. What yall say?

Also, on a side note, Alabama as a whole just feels a lot more college-y now that Nick left. Like there’s an expectation and foundation there, but the chokehold he had on Alabama from the fans to the media to the sport as a whole I think goes wildly understated. Its almost like he reprogrammed several millions of people to think and expect a certain way to further his football team’s agenda and it worked beautifully. Georgia fans will probably feel the same thing once Kirby calls it quits.

Assuming DeBoer keeps us as Top 5 program, then Byrne will have proven he is the best AD in the country. Hell, he already has proven that. Lock him down.
