It’s pro ball now. You can just watch the top pro league now - the NFL - like most people do.
I've dipped my toe in those waters but the NFL quite literally puts me to sleep. So it's just kind of college or nothing, since high school doesn't get broadcast on television often and I don't live in my hometown anymore.

*sigh* the reality is we have been spoiled as a fanbase for 17 years. I get how that’s enough to make even some loyal fans fair weather, but man. I’m so disappointed in the way discussions have gone down on here in the past week.
Roll Tide anyway.
Roll Tide anyway.

However with the current system in place, not sure what you guys were expecting once Nick retired.
Keeping a solid group of players on the team seems to be paramount. And not doing so might hold a program back 3+ seasons.
There’s no excuse not to approach the ~10 most important returning players and get them on board with the immediate plan.
And that plan is to pay them to tie the line and ensure as many players as possible are on board for the next season.
This shite has been chaos. And a lot of it unnecessary chaos.

You know why? Because fans loved BAMA when BAMA was 3-8.
Well said. I was in school during the Shula/early Saban era and went to every game as a student. There was still a wonderful energy on campus and in the stadium during those mostly down years. I’m excited about the new product this spring and the fall but will be weird not having Saban in the sideline. Although I wouldn’t say it’s been a decline the past few years, player development, penalties and coaching changes did not feel like Saban brand we once knew.
Good things always come to an end at some point, but I remain hopeful about the new staff and will always support Bama athletics.

But do you actually know anything about what is going behind the scenes?

There are plenty of fans that will take your season tickets.
Every game at BDS will be a sellout this season. And the year after that, and the year after that, ad infinitum. Guaranteed.
I will bet you $100 that this is not the case.
The downturn had already started. A year before I gave mine up...after 2021..I was offered the opportunity to buy 4 more, better seats...for a total of 8...so I took them. Frankly, I was shocked. I didn't have that many Tide Pride points...not even enough to get offered tickets to away games.
Sure, you see the sellout number of 100,077 for the Chattanooga game, but we all know there weren't that many in attendance. And those tickets to games like that basically became worthless...I couldn't give them away.
And while Auburn and LSU continued to have strong resale value, tickets to teams like Miss. State and Arkansas also dropped in value.

Ok dude. Attendance to football games had never been an issue at BAMA.

I was irate this morning. I’ve cooled down. I’ll never quit my team but I think in this age of college we have to just hang on until after spring and then go nuclear later haha.

Until that reform comes, I am out. Major college football is dead to me.
The sport needs a refactor, no doubt about it. I think people need to get over themselves a bit though. Alabama will field a team next year and they’ll probably be a very mentally tough squad who play hard for one another. Other schools have survived a coaching change in the NIL/transfer free agency era. Alabama will too.

I agree. All the people that thought NIL was so great. You got it and now you pay the price.

Me too. And what’s happening to Bama is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s getting exponentially worse each season.
Killing off the PAC 12, these ridiculous alliances like Cal and Stanford in the ACC, the almost unwatchable nature of some broadcasts where commercials take up 50-60 minutes of a single half, the intense cynicism that used to be absent from college football, all the decent players sitting out every bowl, it goes on and on.
Greed ruins everything. Period.

Very true but he didn't have the sack to say it! Then again it's hard to say "I am tired of F with today's players" when you're tasked with trying to keep the roster intact.

Me too until August. I think most of us need a little break. I will drive up for A day if I’m not umpiring that weekend.

People seem to believe I started this thread only because we lost a star player or two to the transfer portal. No, I started this thread because those players had the ABILITY to transfer with no penalty. That is an error of the system and it is an error that needs to be corrected and fast. Players have essentially become unrestricted free agents after they sign their NLI.
The reason why I continued to watch on Saturdays when Alabama was dog shite in the early-00s is because of the players and their love for the program. They remained in Tuscaloosa even after we got slapped by the NCAA with major sanctions. They held the rope and remained loyal, even after Franchione bolted for College Station. Seeing players like Mike Johnson lift the crystal football in Pasadena in January 2010 was among the most satisfying moments of my fandom.
Now we have two high profile players, players who would have been faces of the 2024 Alabama Crimson Tide football team, transfer out of the program during a period of heightened flux. Why? Because they're after theirs. They don't have anything approaching the loyalty and love for The University of Alabama as those players on 2002 and 2003 Alabama did. Isaiah Bond might be more talented than Dre Fulgham but he sure as shite didn't love Alabama as much as the latter guy. Caleb Downs will likely go on to be more talented than Roman Harper but he'll never have the same love for Alabama as Harper did.
And that's what is destroying college football. It used to be a regional sport with players who actually cared for their alma maters. Now it's semi-pro. And this shite with the transfer portal has only made things worse for the fans.

The player recruiting pool doesn't give a shite about the program. Just the bucks and whether they will get playing time so they can get to the NFL.
Got to get Mama that house and the Range Rover.
The rosters are out of sync.

Y’all will be fine. Everyone will have to adjust and bama will find a way to thrive in the system like they always do. We’re all having to figure this shite out rn.

I just don’t care at all anymore for what college football has evolved into. It’s all about money now and I’m tired of it. ESPN has ruined the sport as have these other networks that have injected hundreds of millions of dollars into the sport.
I agree with everything you said but this. ESPN didnt ruin the sport, the greed of the schools did. People werent clamoring to pay players when you could actually park and tailgate on campus without shelling out $$$. The average Joe could attend a game without having to remortgage his home and IF a game was on tv, the commercials didnt make the games 4 hours long. The schools took all the tradition and pageantry and sold it down the river to the highest bidders. The players were no longer a part of the student body but worker bees to earn them big $$$. There was a golden opportunity long ago to help out the players by licensing the video games and giving that money to the players....but they decided to hoard it and give themselves raises instead
