I saw some stats that show that LSU's qb throws for more yards per attempt than Hurts does. That sucks.

Hurts has more YPA than Tua.

Or run for a TD. As he's done quite a few times now as the pocket breaks down.

Etling is 15th nationally in YPA. That doesn't suck at all.

Some of these guys fell in love with the idea of Hurts being our very own Watson but the only reason he is starting is because we had no other options. The writing is on the wall.
god damn you are retarded

We still need a backup qb, they won't be on the field together. At best a two an system.

No way in hell that Tua Tagovailoa will sit for 3 years to play 1.

This is what I’m afraid of. Maybe redshirt him next year?

If there is no way in hell ( as you put it) that Tua will wait for 3 years to play one, then he might as well transfer after this year, because that's what he will be doing barring injury. Let's say that we win the National Championship this year with Hurts as the starter. Does anyone in their right mind think Saban would start someone else over Hurts after leading us to a 29-1 record with a runner up finish and a National Title?

Why do some think Jalen can't continue to improve as a passer? He might do so and then be drafted after his junior season. Tua may get to play quite a bit in some games this seaon and next, and then start as a junior.

Simple:
As long as Hurts keeps winning, he starts. If he starts losing, Tua will start. That's how Saban thinks.

I've never understood why people think one player "wins" any games. Hurts has won zero games. The team has won a lot of games, which could or could not mean that Hurts (or any other player) played well in those games. For every play you can point out that a player made to "win" a game, I can point out one he didn't make that would have "won" the game earlier in the game.

As far as the topic of this thread, I think, even if Jalen does continue to improve in the passing game, we're going to see Tua on the field a fair amount in the coming years. He's going to be good enough to play. I don't know if he will take over the starting job, or if it will be a true 2 QB system, or if they'll just put him out there a little more than they normally would with a backup. But, whatever the case, I think he's going to get some playing time because A. he's going to be very good and B. they won't want to lose him.

but there are going to be times he escapes the pocket where we are going to have receivers and backs running wide open down the field. He just seems a bit shy ripping it in those situations. But, like others have said, that may be instructed.

There's no way he's going to be instructed to take an 8 yard run over an easy 60 yard touchdown. Let's get real here. That's the area of his game he needs to improve the most. I can deal with not throwing it over the middle or overthrowing covered guys down the field. That happens. He could have soooo many easy big plays though if he just scrambled to throw. When he tucks the ball down he has one thing on his mind, and it usually results in a positive play. Obviously a better outcome than taking a sack or turning the ball over...but take a play from Saturday as an example. Ruggs roasted a guy on a double move and would've walked into the endzone, but Jalen couldn't pull the trigger. The coverage breaks down when he scrambles. It's going to, we have elite athletes at WR and an elite runner at QB. Those ingredients make it damn near impossible to cover guys for any length of time and still contain the quarterback. I just wish he would slow it down a little when he decides to run and pick his eyes up one more time before fully committing to crossing the line of scrimmage, there are huge plays to be had. Hopefully he'll see that play on film this week and the light will come on.

That's the starkest contrast between Hurts and Tua to me. Hurts has a Nick Marshall mindset and Tua has a Johnny Manziel mindset when it comes to moving behind the line of scrimmage. One is ready to takeoff and pick up yards, the other wants to just avoid you so he can throw it to an open guy

C'mon, man. It's a figure of speech. It means that as long as Alabama wins their games while Hurts is the starting QB, he'll continue to be the starting QB.
