Seems as though every year he is mentioned for some job but haven't heard anything on this board?

Your best bet would be the coaching changes board.

Are there any other major openings? Seems like the big jobs have been filled.

Nope, but I wish it would for his sake and ours. We need some new blood and ideas on defense IMO.

Not sure what's funny. Our defense has been torched by every elite offense we have played for the last three years. Good spread teams chew us up, and now anybody above high-school level can pass down the field on us. It's time for some changes. How many third and longs have we given up the last two years again? A staggering number, I'll tell you that.

I'm all for improvement, and it's not like Saban is resting on his laurels, but let's have some perspective. We are upset over a defense finishing #12 nationally. The 2014 team was a vicim of having to live up to previous success.

I don't think he is either, but whatever he's doing is not working like it did before the shift to spread offenses.
I'm also a Tennessee Titans fan, and watched Jeff Fisher's defenses go from bruisers to irrelevancy in a 3 year span...simply because he wasn't willing to get out of the old school mindset.

We play 5-6 DBs more often than not and are recruiting smaller athletic guys for the front 7. The changes are being made.
The secondary has been a mess the past two seasons, but there was an improvement from 2013 to 2014 despite what the stats say. A large part of what made Saban's defenses successful was strong CB play among a few other things. Without that, it doesn't work that well.
Look at the starting CBs we have had since 2009: Kareem Jackson (1st rounder), Javier Arenas (All-American), Dre Kirkpatrick (1st rounder), Dee Milliner (1st rounder/All-American), Deion Belue (undrafted), Cyrus Jones (still in school), and Eddie Jackson (still in school). You can't help but notice that the front half of that list is quite a bit better than the back half.
I think a large part of the issues we are having are talent issues that should be fixed starting next year. If even half of the young DBs pan out, we will a very high level of play in the secondary. This would allow us to play our safeties closer to the line to help with run support.

I'm so sorry...
My dad has been a PSL holder since day 1 and would probably give his left and right nut to get rid of those things.

What's funny is you thinking that someone other than Kirby Smart might possibly have coached up Trey Depriest into CJ Mosley or Eddie Jackson into Dee Milliner.

Trey should not been on the field as often as he was, maybe a different coach realizes that and some of our problems are fixed

When Trey wasn't on the field, our defense looked like a bunch of Stevie Wonders out there.

And once again, there you have it. Two guys debating about whether or not we were better off this year with a guy who never would have even seen the field on any of the NC teams. Coaching can only take you so far if you don't have the studs.

but Trey did see the field during both of the last two NC seasons, A LOT.

I can't see him being offered a power 5 job yet..like McElwain
