I'm not sure where the Perry hate is coming from...

Just a guess, but he got "posterized" on a couple of plays this year...he was run over badly by running backs...although a play or two like that doesn't necessarily mean he's had a bad season, it can be indelibly stamped on one's mind...

i think that was 1 play that went for like 30 yards. it happens

what other plays did he get posterized?

I've seen some other players in our secondary get ran over too.

I think the Perry haters just had their mind made up before the season that they didnt like him and he hasnt done enough to make them change their minds this year. Still see some of the same type of blind hate towards Sims and a few others too. Cyrus Jones has done a good job of quieting the haters though.

Fast forward to last year...before the Iron Bowl, Cade Foster had made 11 of 12 FGs...a good reckoning by any standard...after his 3 misses against Auburn, all of that was forgotten. Several fans questioned why Foster was the starting kicker because "he sucked" (choosing to ignore that he was 11-12 beforehand). Now all that Cade's remembered for is his Iron Bowl performance...

That's the point. Was even one of his 11 of 12 previous to the Iron Bowl kicks even semi-important? Maybe his two makes against MSU (though that game was still a 13 point win). Nobody gives a shite if you are kicking a field goal in a 35 point blow out. Can you kick one that actually determines a win or loss? Foster never could for some reason.

I agree that it is unfair to label Griffith with that "good when it doesn't matter, miss when it does label" but the two early misses against Ole Miss when it was evident we were going to be in a dog fight just opened up some old wounds for a lot of people. His performance againt WVU was very nice. I'd give him a C right now. I'd like to see more touch backs.

yeah and if posters want to point out specific examples then that is fair criticism. but usually all i hear is "he sucks" without anything to back it up

I'm not disagreeing with either of you...I mentioned in a pre-season post that I thought Perry should be a starter. I was just guessing that might be the reason people were grading him poorly...some times a couple of bad plays are more etched in memory than steady playing...

It wasn't nearly as bad as the FAU game so maybe posterized was too strong a word...he missed a tackle (can't recall the game, it was after the FAU game though) when a guy shook him off after the initial hit and I remember thinking that Perry needed some work on wrapping up...

Collins has gotten beat much more than Perry. I really can't remember too many bad plays by Perry this year.

This is actually quite true. I think I've seen Perry beat once and busted on coverage once.

Landon Collins on the other hand gets busted multiple times and gets beat multiple times each (WVU, Florida, Ole Miss) game.

My only thing with Perry is he has little to no presence. He isn't getting busted or beat... but he isn't making any plays.

Landon Collins is getting beat like a drum at times, but he makes plays here and there.

Nice post about kickers. I feel the same way. Make the ones that matter and you're a hero. Make the others and miss all the big ones like Cade? Then you're a villain.

I just hope Adam isn't mentally weak like Cade. I will not lie and say that three miss streak didn't bring back horrible memories of Cade Foster.

I hope that as well...I was encouraged when Griffith came back and hit the 44-yarder though, after the 2 earlier misses...he hit that one solid...from what Saban mentioned about Griffith (albeit before the game), I think he'll be alright...

I think there's even more pressure nowadays, not just on kickers, but on college football in general. Every game is televised and, with all the social media, screw up once and you're all over Youtube and Twitter...

this is a fair criticism. probably his best play was ruled a targeting penalty and then he didnt play for several quarters (i dont recall perry coming back in the 2nd half against florida). But the same criticism can be made for A'shawn Robinson. I cant remember a time when his name has been called.

Yeah A'Shawn has been quiet this season. But I think he has done a good job freeing up other guys to make plays.

i agree. im a bit disappointed that we haent got the big plays out of A'shawn yet this season, but that doesnt mean he isn't still doing a good job. i think the same is true for any player. just because you aren't getting your name called doesnt mean you arent doing your job.

How about Jarran Reed though. He has been impressive at getting his hands up and knocking down passes. I think a few guys have done that a lot better this year. Maybe Bo Davis is to thank for that.
