Whitefield comments

"so completely well rounded as a QB at a young age."

"best 18 year old QB he's ever been around"

" If he performs in the scrimmages, the writing is on the wall"

I will be at the scrimmage, more to follow on the QB development. Anything George Whitfield says take seriously.

Let us know how he does. If he is the best, I'm hoping Saban starts him. It can be tough to make that decision, but if Barnett is the best talent wise and isn't too intimidated by the college game, give him the keys.

agree here and not at all worried about him being intimidated. from all i've read and the few people i've spoken with who have seen practices & talked to staff, the kid is borderline cocky (but in a good way). the line will be really good and the running game & D will help whoever the starter is. we just need a QB who can grade out at a B every game and limit his turnovers to less than 10 for the year.

So what do you guys think happens? I really want to see Blake start down the road.

So if Coker takes the job this year....next year Cornwell and Barnett fight it out for the spot with the loser likely transferring?

Or maybe Cornwell wins the job this year and Blake leaves for a starting qb job? Or hopefully he would wait it out and start a few years down the line?

I can't wait to see how qb plays out this next year or two.

I know that whatever happens this year, I trust Saban and Kiffin, but I want a potential game changer at QB. I don't think we can navigate this schedule AND three big time post season games (SECCG, CFBPG, CFBNCG) with just a game manager. We need someone who can make plays from the position because we're too thin at RB to rely on the running game in every outing and while LT-C-RT should be good, the Guard positions are a question mark right now.

I trust the coaches to a degree. Ultimately they're the ones making millions so I'll refrain from criticizing them too much (mainly because wtf do they care)

But to insinuate that layman couldn't figure out you should probably run Derrick Henry after Ohio St scrubs that punt seems a big disingenuous. Coaches make mistakes on play calls, because they're human. You don't have to 100% trust they'll make the right decision...sometimes they don't.

I know. I question the coaches, I'm just saying right now I trust them on this. A few weeks into the season I may not.

This is the perfect answer to this question. Saban in particular has proven he's one of the all-time greats. So while it hurts to see us lose a game based on, what we fans see as obviously, bad decisions, you can only bitch and second guess so much about a coach who's win three rings within a decade.

You know how many true frosh QBs have won Titles? You can count them on one finger. If Barnett is a game-changer, it would probably be changing the game for the worse. Not knocking the kid, I'm sure he'll be great with experience. That's just how it goes.

We have four other options to potentially be a game changer, I wasn't talking about specifically Barnett.

Man, if he proves his worth in Lane's offense... first TRUE Freshman Heisman winner? I kid, I kid.

Whitfield has worked with 2 Heisman winning qb's that I know of. When he says Barnett is the best 18 yr old he's been around, that speaks volumes about this kid's potential.

I'd have put $100 for shits'n'gigs if the odds were actually available.

I'm taking that with a pinch of salt. I won't deny it (how would I know?) but taking it at face value is Gumping a little too hard for me.

True. I look at it this Whitfield is well respected in the business so if he said that about every kid then he would lose some credibility. I'm not saying Barnett should start, personally i hope he doesn't but at least it gives us some hope for the future since the guys we have don't have the confidence of the coaches right now.

Just listened to it personally, was surprised when Whitfield said this but with "by far" before it.
