. I'm fairly sure that at this point Barnett will get game snaps THIS year.
I'd be shocked. Thats never been Sabans M.O.

quote:agree. he has the best physical tools, and despite the 2 ints in the spring game, he was the qb who looked like he was actually going through his progressions and thinking (2nt int bounced of the TEs hands)
I'm getting the preseason chub. I really hope cornwell shows out and passes everybody. I want the best QB playing, I just hope he is good enough to be that QB. Two 1 and done QB's in a row just doesnt feel like Alabama football.

Gonna post the contents of the al.com article:
As for Barnett, I think Cornwell could leave early for the NFL, especially if he starts this year. Ideally we find a way to get at least two years of starting out of both.
quote:
-- There was no starting quarterback. Who's in the lead? Can't read much out of that either. When they were doing drills, Jake Coker and David Cornwell were 1A and 1B, both throwing at the same time to opposite sides of the field.
-- Freshman running back Bo Scarbrough was practicing with a brace on his right knee. He was fourth in line after tearing his ACL in the spring. The other player to go down with that injury, WR Cam Sims, was not out there as expected. His rehab continues.
-- There were a few new running backs out there too. Freshman Damien Harris was third in line behind Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake. The former 5-star is one to watch this August. Ronnie Clark was the fifth back in line behind Scarbrough.
-- With the receivers, freshman Calvin Ridley was working fourth in line on one side of the throwing drills. Chris Black and Robert Foster were in the first group with ArDarius Stewart and Parker Barrineau second and Derek Kief and freshman Daylon Charlot in the third group.
-- Oregon State transfer Richard Mullaney had a number change from No. 82 to No. 16. He was not in the first groups.
-- There appeared to be no changes with the first-team offensive line from spring. Cam Robinson (LT), Ross Pieschbacher (LG), Ryan Kelly (C), Bradley Bozeman (RG) and Dominick Jackson (RT) were the first group. Korren Kirven was the second-team left tackle.
-- Reserve center Joshua Casher was not spotted on the field.
-- Nick Saban will meet with reporters after practice.

Apparently Raheem Falkins had a leg fracture during the summer that required surgery. Looking more and more like Ridley and Charlot will be contributing as freshmen.

quote:the oregon state guy is going to fill the role of big physical possession receiver (cam sims, raheem falkins type). he has more game experience that all the rest of our receivers combined, catches everything that comes his way, and im sure we are going to get a heavy dose of him on 3rd downs and redzone situations.

was there no news on the defensive side of the ball yet? I am interested in how the secondary is going to play out.

Alabama cornerbacks 'all competing' for starting spots'
I hope it's not a CB by committee approach at the 2nd CB spot the way it has been the last 2 years but, based on this quote, it might be:

Defensive notes
Pettway and Hand with the 3rd group? God our DL depth is ridiculous
quote:
— Senior cornerback Cyrus Jones and senior outside linebacker Denzel Devall were full participants in practice after sitting out spring practice while rehabbing from offseason surgeries. Both were medically cleared following spring practice. Jones and sophomore Tony Brown were the first-team cornerbacks in drills during the portion of practice open to the media. Devall and junior Ryan Anderson were the first-team outside linebackers.
— Senior Dillon Lee — who can play both outside and inside linebacker — was part of the first pairing at inside linebacker during drills with senior Reggie Ragland.
— The first group along the defensive line during drills consisted of junior A'Shawn Robinson, senior Jarran Reed and senior nose tackle Darren Lake. Junior Jonathan Allen, junior Dalvin Tomlinson and sophomore nose tackle Josh Frazier were the second-team. The third group consisted of senior D.J. Pettway, redshirt freshman O.J. Smith and sophomore Da'Shawn Hand.
— Senior Bradley Sylve and redshirt freshman Marlon Humphrey were the second pairing at cornerback during drills behind Jones and Brown. Redshirt sophomore Anthony Averett and junior Maurice Smith were third. Freshmen Minkah Fitzpatrick and Kendall Sheffield were fourth.

yeah, id like solid starters and then solid backups, but not a mush pile
Posted on 8/7/15 at 1:52 pm to ThaKaptin
Burgess-Becker is much bigger than I thought he would be. It's also nice having a number 34 in the backfield.
